She is building a nest!!!

Early this morning I found Fraggles frantically building a nest with her hay. I came home from work to find her completely buried in hay. Only her ears and face were visible. Now she is out and still carrying hay around and arranging it. She is spayed so I don't know why she is doing this. Is the nest for her? She did take a nap in it. Or does she think she is pregnant?

Rabbits can sometimes get a "false pregnancy". They also like to play in hay.

I have seen her play with the hay before but this is different. She is really aggressive about the "nest" but she is fixed.they get false pregnancys when there fixed?

Yes - they can get false pregnancies....at least that is what I've been told.

I had female rabbits that did this but they were not fixed. I would think that once they were spayed they wouldn't do this sort of thing. Maybe some others will spayed females with have some answers for ya. :dunno

Our Gypsy girl is spayed...has been for almost two years...
and she still builds nest once or twice a year.

We let her build her nest...let her futz with it for a week or so until she is done and then we clean it up!

I've noticed this seems to be more common in late spays.

Wow that's quite the nest. Fraggles has given up nest building for now. She was spayed at 5 months and that does not seem very late.

my bun is 4 years old, never had a litter (not spayed) she still makes nests every once and a while. i'm guessing it's normal behaviour for females
