I had a lot of sewing to do today - I turned my daughter's old jeans into shorts. Shadow was right in the middle of everything, as usual. She hangs out in whatever room I'm in during the day, it's so cute! I tossed her a leg from a pair of jeans to see if she'd do anything, and she kind of dug at it and tossed it a bit. I took all the pieces I had cut off and put them into a box for her. She had a blast chewing, digging, and pulling on all the scraps! Again, another homemade toy that she loves. I'm SO done buying her stuff, lol!

My poor bunny has been dealing with an ear infection for three weeks now. We were out of town for the first week of August and our bunny sitter called us on Wednesday night because he noticed that Shadow had her left ear down. Since we were coming home Thursday morning I decided I'd wait until we got home to bring her to the vet instead of having him try to bring her. That Friday morning (Aug 6) I brought her to the vet and she gave me Baytril and Tresaderm drops to give her twice a day for ten days. She seemed a lot better at the end of the ten days, but her ear was still down. I called the vet and she gave me anopther seven days worth of Baytril. This past Monday she finished her medicine, but she still was keeping her ear down. I figured I'd give her a day or two since her behavior was normal (as it had been the whole time). She was always just as active as ever, was eating and drinking normally, and her potty habits were good. On Tuesday I noticed that she was staying in her cage more and acting kind of lethargic, so I brought her in to another vet almost an hour away since her vet doesn't work Tuesdays. They checked for mites and outer ear infection, but found nothing. They suggested an x-ray to check the middle and inner ear, but I decided to wait to talk to the regular vet on Wednesday. The only reasons I waited were because 1) they wanted to sedate her for the x-ray even though she was pretty much just sitting wherever they put her, and 2) it was an emergency center so it would have costed much more than her regular vet. Well, this morning I brought her to her own vet to have the x-ray done. They said they wouldn't sedate her unless they needed to in order to keep her still. I'm concerned about her health, but isn't it a good sign that she's still eating and drinking well and has normal poops? She even came out of her cage last night and ran around a bit before laying down next to me on the couch. Nothing like her normal activity for sure, but better than it had been since Tuesday morning. They should be getting Shadow in for her x-ray around now, so hopefully I'll be getting a call soon to find out what's going on with her ear.

They didn't see anything wrong in her X-rays, but they're sending them out to another vet for a second opinion. They took a blood sample to check, too. In the meantime I got a stronger antibiotic for her to start. I forgot what they called it, but the bottle says "SMZ-TMP Oral Suspension". I'm hoping that there really is nothing wrong with her.

ETA - The medication is called Sulfa Trimethoprim, which I guess is a type of pennicillin (sp?)

Aww poor Shadow...but it does sound good that she's still eating and drinking..

Hope the stronger antibiotic will help her more..

I think she's feeling a little better already. She came out of her cage a few times today to hop around a bit.

Shadow is getting her spunkiness back, I'm so relieved! She came out this morning and tore around the house with a vengeance! It was like she was trying to make up for the days when she just layed around doing nothing. I was worried for a while there...
