Severe fur loss

Hi everyone

We have just come back from a weeks holiday and the rabbits were being looked after by a relative and all seemed well. We've noticed today that Schumi's fur is just falling out, loads of it. Its not a normal moult and he is going to develop bald patches for sure. It is coming out all over his body and not just one area. He is not scratching or showing any signs of discomfort.

We have a vets appointment for tonight but I was hoping someone here may have an idea what this is.

Has he by any chance had the VHD jab recently?

One of mine got bald patches after that.

Also, stress can cause them to lose hair, so maybe the stress of you going away has got to him? Or maybe a diet change?

Does he have scurf? Or any sign of flea dirt?

Hi Daffy hope you enjoyed your holiday

Nibbler is a bit the same at the mo Bruce picked him up tonight and most of the hair on his back just pulled away, his new coat is underneath. To be honest i am wondering if its the weather cause the poor buns can't tell if it is wArm or cold.

I hope it is nothing more serious let us know

The holiday was great thanks! The vet gave both schumi and Daffy a look over and couldn't find any traces of mites, dandruff etc. She was also wondering if the changeable weather has got anything to do with it. She has given them both an injection for mites to be on the safe side and asked to see them in 10 days.

So, the vet isn't really sure whats going on either but Schumi seems happy enough at the moment so we'll just keep an eye on it.

Shadow is exactly the same at the minute - I can sit and gently pull handfulls of fur off him, then half an hour later he is as bad again. I could have made another bunny with all the fur he has lost .

Definately think this awful summer has something to do with it - poor buns must still think it's winter!!!
