Oh, Michaela, sorry to hear that you had a bad day. I wish that every student would have a wonderful first day and feel good about themselves and their classes. Maybe it will be a challenging year, but you will certainly be able to meet the challenges. You are so bright (you always help me with RO tech stuff and bunny questions), so I know that you can learn all that you need to this year. Maybe math & science will be so enjoyable that you won't mind the English and economics too much.

Enjoy the rest of your night. Forget the pressure and all the "tough talk" from the principal. Just relax, get plenty of rest, and go in tomorrow determined to make the day a great one. I'll be thinking of you! Let me know how it goes.

Aw thanks Mary-Ellen.

Once I get myself back into a routine it will be easier I'm sure, I just have to get used to the increased workload. :)One thing I can say is thank God I didn't do Art & Design, they have so so much work! I loved A&D in years 8-10, but I was so slow at it, haha! :p

My first class (we spent the day in the form class getting lectures and "Target Setting" today :rollseyes) is Economics, then English. Yay! :yuckBut it's not as bad in the afternoon.

I feel better about the day now though, bunnies are amazingly calming. :D

Those first few days are agony - even for teachers...trust me! I had to say the SAME THING 9 times in a row the first two days. It was all procedures and that junk. I know that not even half of it sank in with the students...and I don't blame them for that. I was sick of hearing my own voice by the end of the day.

We are still in the process of doing leveling tests and the like...so it won't be until next week that the students I work with actually get a normal week. They've been so great, though. I told our principal they deserve a big treat...not that they'll get it...but I had to let him know how awesome they've been.

I'm glad that you have your least favorite classes in the morning. That tends to be a teenager's best focus time...if you had those classes later in the day they'd be harder. And at least you end your day on a positive note.

I ran right home to snuggle my bunnies (and kitties), too. Animals make life so much better, don't they!?!

He he. Listen to you all, moaning about going back to school. I've been at school all year already. In Australia, our summer holidays are when our summer is; over Christmas and January. Thus why we never have a white Christmas over here. :p

I'm in Year 7 (12-13 yo), and it's the end of Term 3. Woop woop. Only two and a half weeks left until our two week holidays. Nooooo, assignment time.

I can imagine, I would hate to have to actually be saying what the teacher is saying, at least when you're listening you can day-dream. :roflmao:

True, it'll be a better end to the day, you've got a great way of finding the positives of everything Mary-Ellen, I don't know how you do it!

Animals ROCK! I don't know how I'd get by without them, watching binkies or having a big lump of a cat (my Moppet ;)) snuggle beside you and purring away is just the best feeling. :biggrin2:

I'm back tomorrow. :grumpy:NOT excited.

I'm going into Year 12, which is 15-16 year olds...I don't know what grade that would be in America and Canada (though I think you guys start school later than us, we start at age 4 here.)
In america and Canada you would be in grade 10. We start school at age 7 ( grade 1)

We start 1st grade at 6 years old. Though I started preschool at 3 and kindergarten at 5.

I've been in school for a week already. I'm finally a Senior (12th grade, 17 years old.) I'venever had so much homework though, though it's partially my fault because I picked my classes. I'm taking physics honors, free block, world religions/ christian philosophies of life and love, anatomy & physiology, AP Calculus AB, AP English Lit., and AP US Gov. I also do choir after school 2 days a week and I'm an english tutor and a math tutor 2 lunches a week.

I am happy to say I had a great first day, although I am so tired!:biggrin2:We did a bunch of team building exercises, which included making a statue out of balloons - which was hilarious! Unfortunately I don't think tomorrow will be as fun seeing as lessons start then, but I am looking forward to it. The good thing about A-levels is that you get to choose the subjects you love, so it's way more interesting than lower down the school where you have to do subjects you hate!:p

Ugggh, I started the 10th grade and it sucks. :XIt's way too crowded in my school! It's not a big school and where are almost at 1000 people in that building already.

Ok, all you students. You can help me with ideas! Bunnys_rule, you talked about team building activities...what kind of stuff did you do?

I am heading up a new "class" this year where students work on and on-line reading program (it is so cool...and they all seem to like it so far). Anyway, instead of everything being graded they are going to get "cash" (points) to spend on stuff they want...things like some computer game time, access to emailing their classmates, being able to listen to music while working, etc. I think it would be cool for entire classes to "win" occasional fun activities.

They are 12-14 years old. Do any of you have any ideas what FREE, fun stuff they might like? What would you want to earn if you could? Again, it needs to be things that don't cost money...ways to spend time...

I'm open to any suggestions!

Thanks,

-Mary Ellen

(Oh, and Michaela....I sometimes DO daydream while I'm talking. Imagine how confused that makes me! hehe At least it keeps the students on their toes.)

Well, school started on the 27th for our kiddos here. I'm an elementary school coach. It's been really fun so far. A couple of problem kids but we get them every year so nothing out of the ordinary. We have some runners(kids who run away when they get scolded) but they've all been doing very well. I hope this trend continues. :biggrin2:

Well, today was my second day in grade 8(13 years). It's ok I guess. Tomorrow is our first day of phys ed. UGGGG!!! I am soooooo bad at sports! It's so imbarassing! To make matters worse, I have one of the most popular guys in school in MY class!!!!:sigh:

I'm gonna be so imbarassed tomorrow! The only sports I can acctually do are running and badminton. At least I have a couple friends. I really enjoy work though! Expecially Social Studies and Science. Okay at Math and English, A grade average.

But my social problems are the worst. I am totally comfortable in class working beside my friends, but at break and gym and stuff, I am a dork! Total social dork!:embarrassed:

You are so NOT ALONE! I think at 13 just about everyone feels like a dork...even the people who seem so popular and try to act cool. They're just good at seeming calm, cool, and confident...but that doesn't mean they always feel that way.

I was an absolute, total dork, too. I was not a good athlete and not particularly pretty or popular. My girlfriends all were perky and cute. (gag!) But I was a good student and had great friends. Back thenI felt uncool. But as I got older I learned to embrace my geekdom and be proud of it.

I know that right now feeling like a dork totally "sucks." (I hate using that term...but that's what all my students would say. :p) But when you get to be an adult dork you'll look back and smile. Trust me. Til then, just hang tough, do your best at everything, and find out what you are good at. Excel at those things and be true to who you are...you'll never regret it!

My first day of college is tomorrow and I am not really excited...I have 4 classes tomorrow, 1 on Wed., 3 on Thurs., 1 on Friday and 1 on Monday. Most of my classes are in the afternoon, so that's cool. I am NOT a morning person.:p

I see you are from WI too, I am a Junior at UW Sheboygan, where do you go? I know Sheboygan is a 2 year school, but I really do have enough credits for Junior status... 2 more science credits, and I will earn my Associates in arts and sciences, and then I will transfer to Lakeland in the fall of 08.

how was day one?

My first day was okay.... Its been the second and third that suck! I have got so much homework!! But I dont have gym this term - YES!

High school will always do that to freshmen. :D
Lol, I agree. I still remember my own first day as a freshman. Now I just enjoy watching freshmen run when they get all the way to the other side of campus only to realize that they were headed for the wrong class.

Sorry, I missed this! Day one was okay, a little overwhelming. I go to UW Marshfield/Wood County. It's also a 2 year school, and I'm totally undecided on what to major in. Maybe natural resources.:)
