Try to keep the home treatments as sterile as you can to avoid further complications.
Sterile saline and sterile gauze to wipe the eye.
If you have to use tap water, make sure you boil it and let it cool before using.
If you don't have gauze pads use clean paper towels...NO WASHCLOTHS.
Avoid contaminating the other eye, too.
I usually make a few cups of tea and store it in a tupperware in the refrigerator.
Then I warm a little up in the microwave when I need to use it.
Make sure it's not too hot when you do use it. You should be able to stick your finger in it and have it be warm but not hot.
Use gauze or a papertowel for the compress. Use just enough tea to make it wet, but not so much that it runs all over.
Good luck!!!
