Hi there,

Rocky was neutered 2 weeks ago. I took him in for a check up the other day and they said he was healing nicely and there were no signs of infection or anything.

He has started moulting about 3 days ago and has started being a bit sooky. Is this normal?

He has a healthy appetite, he is even finally eating some meadow hay which is so great! it's just when I take him out of his cage he doesn't want to do much, just hangs around, is little bit fretful and will find place to sit and sleep.

Would there be anything wrong from the surgery? or is this just normal behavior for some rabbits when they have a moult? He had a big moult about 3 months ago and i think he did the same thing.

Rocky's specs:

10 months old, freshly neutered male, grey dwarf lop, just got over a bout of worms a couple of months ago. anything i have left out let me know:)

Maybe the recovery is different for some rabbits. Pippin was snipped 2 weeks ago and he was pretty inactive the first 2 days but picked up in energy the second. By the third he was almost as energetic as usual, and by the 5th day he was back to his normal self.

It was more or less the same with Jean-luc, except for when he was at the vets. He was there for 32hrs and didn't eat that whole time. As soon as i brought him home he started eating and drinking straight away though. But his recovery after bringing him home was pretty quick.

Pippin is moulting right now but he seems his usual self. Both my rabbits seem to be sleeping more than usual during the day but im wondering if it's more to do with the warmer weather. It's almost spring and warming up.

Glad to see another bunny lover in NSW! Rocky is really sleepy and lethargic and a bit fretful. I don't think it's to do with his surgery. I am pretty sure he did that same thing last time he had a big moult but I haven't had him long enough to notice a pattern with it.

He seemed pretty fine last week he was being his normal self and was recovering well. Just the last few days he's been a bit off. If he is still like it on Saturday I will probably take him to the vet just to be sure. Honestly though I don't trust them 100% because I see a different one every time I go and they will probably just tell me to bring him back in another couple of days is he isn't better. That's the best I get really.

Do you know if we can get benebac here at all? maybe a little booster wouldn't hurt

I have no idea though i would imagine that if they were, a google search would track down places that might sell it, maybe check gumtree or ask a breeder.

But in regards to your vet, it might be worth finding out their schedules so you can try to see the same one all the time. Are they rabbit savvy?. If there are none in your area, i know it's a long drive but you could maybe come see the one i go to, if it's only a once in a while thing for a general check up. Would be too far for emergencies though (over an hours drive from Wollongong to Alexandria).

I see Dr Tegan and when she's not available, Dr Lee. They're both great and very knowledgeable about rabbits.
