Remember remember, the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot,
I see no reason why gunpowder and treason
Should ever be forgot!

Everyone have a great evening tonight if you are doing something. Guy Fawkes Night, Fireworks Night, Bonfire Night, whatever you call it have a lot of fun and keep your pets safe, and don't eat too much parkin!

Fran :) :hearts :brownbunny

Dippy's coming in tonight becuase Fluffball and Benjamin are in the playhouse so he gets to come in woop!!

I've got auditions so will probably not get to see any fireworks :( Plus its tipping it down here so :?

Everyone have a great time and be carefull!!

I can never think of the last half of that rhyme Fran. Thank you!:p:biggrin2:

I'm heading out to a fireworks display later but Millie will be spending the whole evening indoors to avoid any bangs that might scare her. Have a good night everyone - and keep an eye on those pets!!

Have fun! I'm watching from my window tonight. I helped my cousins making a Guy Fawkes for the bonfire today.

I always think this tradition is so morbid. We all gather round a bonfire, throw on an effigy of some 400 year old dude and go 'ahhh'.

Archie is indoors. Lottie doesn't seem to care. The cats are going insane.

Sorry to rain on the parade..But I am annoyed with it already! :p

The European Eagle owl started getting REALLY scared so I have had to bring her in...Weighing in at 6lb and 15 ounces it is hurting my arm already to hold her, and my arm is resting on a table anyway!

I got back about an hour ago. Jumped in the shower as soon as I got inas I hate that smokey smell in your hair!:pApart from that it was really good.:) The fireworks were so pretty, although one of my friend's hope that they would manage to spell out "Go Barack" in fireworks didn't quite work out. I don't think Durham's fireworks are that sophisticated!:p

They are very pretty though :)

Millie is totally chilled out, nearly asleep watching TV with my parents. I think I'll put her backout just before I go to bed. The fireworks should have mostly stopped by then. I haven't heard any in a while but I just like to make sure.:?

Since I don't live in the Uk I don't know what holiday/special day is that you are celebrating. Could someone please explain? Is it like our Independence day over here in the US?

Not really. It's a strange holiday to do with an attempted plot to blow up the houses of parliament. This website explains it better than I can.;)

I find this quote so appropriate ;)

"Some of the English have been known to wonder, in a tongue in cheek kind of way, whether they are celebrating Fawkes' execution or honoring his attempt to do away with the government."

Ha ha - that's always what I wonder!:p

Ah ha - I found the poem too!:pI only ever remember the first two lines....:D

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

Guy Fawkes, guy, t'was his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England's overthrow.

By god's mercy he was catch'd
With a darkened lantern and burning match.
So, holler boys, holler boys, Let the bells ring.
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the king.

And what shall we do with him?
Burn him!
