Reese doesn't eat hay. I can't seem to entice her to eat much at all.

The $160 (Canadian dollaris now slightly higher than the US dollar)is just for trimming her teeth, but from now on they will not put her under so it just seems a bit high. Her incisors are good, just her molars were bad. I'm going to call around and see what other places say as far as prices, if I can get it done local, then I will because it's really far to go to this vet clinic especially in winter. And I'm glad the once a month sounds a bit over done, I'll get her checked monthly for a while to make sure they are not growing really fast until I have a rough idea of the length of time she needs to go.

I will tell my parents to watch her for those signs but the problem is they are not nearly as vigilant as I am with my bunnies. It does worry me a little that I can't be here to watch her myselffor the next few months though.

Im so happy to hear she came through ok! The price seems about right I guess. Seems like when Max was having problems I couldnt get out of the vet with a bill less than 200. :)

Obvious question, but have you tried different types of hay with Reese? It might be worth it to order some different kinds or something..

Glad your girl is alright!

My vet I think charged $160 for the first visit, but seeing as she doesn't need an exam when she goes for filing, it's only $90-something.

Glad she's okay. Might seem a little worse before she gets better, though. I find they take a dip when the pain meds wear off and their little jaws are stiff.

All I can get is Timothy or Alfalfa (for the most part)and because of her age, Alfalfa is out of the question (I have to be careful with her diet or she gets sludgy pee). I have tried brome, grass hays, etc. and she will not eat it. She does eat hay cubes though but they are just not the same as hay and I can't seem to find Timothy hay cubes either.

I wont even tell you how much they quoted me for this procedure, luckily it came in over $250 under what they predicted, THANK GOODNESS. But Reese is worth it and putting down the love of Spice's life wasn't an option for me right now.

Pipp, just to have her molars trimmed would cost me like $70 but they also charge me a $40 re-exam fee everytime (and the rest is because they quoted me for incisors as well and her incisors are fine).

But the good news is that Reese is doing SO much better. She hasn't had any pain meds since leaving the vet because (1) I am a firm believer in not using medications unless there is good reason to and (2) the vet said only to give them to her if I thought she needed them. She has definitely not shown any signs of pain, quite honestly she has been improved since the moment I got her home. I had expected her to get worse before she got better but that wasn't the case. She has started coming out of her box more, she is more active, andshe is at least nibbling on hay now.

Good on you re: the pain meds. :nod Save 'em for when they're really needed.

And I'd question your vet on the need for the re-exam. I bring Pipp in and the tech does the procedure without the vet even seeing her.

Especially if Reese does well without much sedation, really don't need the exam.

I'll have to find my threads about controlling spurs with diet, too. I can usually keep Pipp's under control with the right variety. I make sure she has all shapes, sizes and textures of hays, grasses, veggies and pellets.

When she had ended up with spurs, ususally after a day or two of a diet change or a gut issue causing her food intake to drop, I'vegiven her Metacam to get her eating again (which hasn't been intentional, just timing, it's happend two or three times now on long weekends, go figure) and with the right mixes of textures, and her eating with gusto thanks to the meds, the spurs have broken off.

Glad to hear Reese has had a pretty easy time of it. :)
