I would first stop all meds until you get to the vet, especially the baytril. I've read of people giving koalin or activated charcoal to bind the bacterial toxins, but it's not the usual recommendation, and it's not something I've ever tried, so I can't say if it's something I would do or not.

The most important thing is the vet getting your rabbit started on cholestyramin(Questran) right away, to protect the digestive tract from the toxins released by the pathogenic bacteria. Then the antibiotic metronidazole is usually given to counteract the harmful bacteria.

This is pretty serious if your rabbit really does have true diarrhea, so just get your rabbit to the vet as soon as possible.

thanks for the info. i am just counting down the minutes until the vets office hours are open again. i wish there was an emergency overnight vet in the area that would treat rabbits

right now he seems willing to eat more critical care. it is weird because the bowl of it is right there for him to eat when he likes, but he seems like he is having a hard time finding it. when i offered it to him on a baby spoon he gobbled it right up. cant help but wonder about his eyesight cause he doesnt usually struggle with that.

i still have some metaclopramide left i could give him, if that would help

update: his poops got more solid at the vet, of course...he loves to scare me. still mushy but not diarrhea, going to discontinue baytril. the vet confirmed his eyes are getting a little cloudier but he hasnt totally lost his eyesight so there is that. hope as he eats the critical care he also takes interest in his hay again.

I'm really glad it wasn't true diarrhea and he's ok. It's a really bad thing for it to happen, so I'm glad you don't have to be dealing with that as well.

You may need some eye drops for the eyes. If it's the down eye that is getting cloudy, it could have gotten scratched on something and now there's a corneal ulcer. If so, that would need to be treated with the appropriate antibiotic eye drops.

he has eye drops but the vet said it looked like the beginning of cataracts but he can still see relatively well. i guess he is old after all.

well jojo's poops are back to normal and he's got the bounce back in his step so i think i can say he is recovered thank you so much JBun for helping me through this stressful time and providing resources. heres a pic of the boy in good spirits

I'm so glad to hear that!!! What a difficult month for you, but he pulled through thanks to your diligence in making sure he received the proper treatment and help for his condition, and helping and supporting him through it all. It's no small feat to nurse a rabbit through head tilt.
