Haha, I think some people still think Ireland is backward lol. Lol, no, everyone under the age of sixteen HAS to go to school, and everyone does go to school, even in rural areas haha :biggrin2:. There are school buses her too that bring you to school in rural areas. If your parents won't send you to school then you can be brought to court etc.

Also, Irishlops doesn't live in a rural area, she lives in Derry City, which of course in a city. I live in a rural area and my spelling is quite good (I hope lol). I think Irishlops probably just has a learning difficulty or a problem with spelling.

it's the same way in the US too however when i lived in central Pennsylvania some of those towns were so far in the mountains things like hospitals etc are too far to get to. i know of people that were born in their parents house and their parents never registered them in the state so basically---they don't exist. and they live so far away from the law that they aren't charged for not sending their children to school. there are still areas of pennsylvania where english is a second language and the primary language is German or Dutch. In the town that i lived in I was one of the few people in my school that didn't grow up speaking German or Dutch. Some kids even go to kindergarten not knowing any english and they were born in America. people from other countries don't know about that kind of stuff. most people see our american TV shows and think everyone lives like that. i just figure that if places like where i went to high school exist in this coutry they must exist everywhere and not everyone is aware of it.

i thought that might be a possibility too.......i wasn't sure but didn't want people to just blow her off.

Places like that don't really exist here since the country is so small, probably around the same size as one of your states? Your never that far away from a town. Of course not everyone goes to school, but it's usually in rough, urban areas where they can't make the kids go to school.

I live ina rural area and help out on a farm in my spare time. About 30-40 years ago kids were encouraged by their parents to stay at home and work on the farm but now there is no money in farming and all the farmers I know have other jobs too and farming is just more of a lifestyle then a job. Farmers are encouraging their kids more then ever to go to school now because the only jobs to be got here at the moment require third level education.

That's Ireland, the little country in red. Is one of your states about the same size as that, I'm not sure?

Irishbunny: Yes, it looks like about the same size as my state, Oregon. That size perspective never occured to me before! I thought Ireland was much larger.

Although, some of our states are big a some are little, so we have a few that look smaller than Ireland too!

Learn something new every day. :)

thanks every one. i will get lots more help now:dude:

*has a little dance*

If you use Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer you can turn a spell checker on. I'm not an awful speller but certain words I just cannot spell at all, and I'm an English student!

The thing that you could easily try is saying 'one' instead of '1' and 'U', that is what throws me with reading 'text language'. When you write you are supposed to spell the numbers rather than putting the digit in.

Fran :) :hearts :brownbunny

Just so people know Ireland has one of the best educationsystems in the world I think irishbunny can agree. Because alot of are classes would be smaller then american schools so we get alot more one on one time.
