Bit of both really Paul. a lot of the rare breeds were common until smaller breeds and lops came in then so many people swopped over to them these rabbits became rare. You tend to only see them at big shows especailly in Scotland. I really like teh sallanders myself. As an aside the beverens very nearly got put into the rare breeds because so few people breed them now

You just made my day!

For YEARS I've been trying to figure out Spank's coloring. I've come across some rabbits of different breeds with the EXACT coloring of Spank. The smokey grey nose, and how it blends into his body. And the ears.. how they have that dark, smokey coloring, same as the nose. How they're body is really white, with grey tips on the end of the fur?

But I've always been told that it was nicknamed the "colored himalayin".

OOOOMMMMGEEEEE!!! :pinkbouce:

Look at that nosey! SO cute! :inlove: Are their markings supposed to be solid like that, in show quality Papillons then? Dotty's is kind of Batman wing-shaped, although obviously I know she's not show quality or anything.... How old/big was that one, do you know?

Thank you! :biggrin2:

The Alaskan used to be an accepted breed in the US, the "Pap" Papillion (Butterfly) is a Checkered Giant in the US.

The Sallander color is called "Sable Point" in the US. The body is creamy - not pure white. You'll note that the Himi eyes are red, where the Sallander has brown eyes.

Jen they are all adult rabbits at Bradford so have to be over 5 months old that one was older though and fully grown. I did notice soem had more spots than others. But I haven't really paid much attention to the breed standard so I am truly not sure.

Looks like my Rhinelander. ;)

Thanks for sharing those pics; I love rare breeds, and it's neat to see what kind of bunnies you guys have in the UK. The Sallander is gorgeous.

Sorry, that's what I meant! Spank is creamed colored underneath the grey tips. And he has brown eyes. I have a Himi - Precious- she has red eyes. Ialways put them side by side and could never understand how Spank was "supposed" to resemble Precious. But now I know he's not supposed to at all.

I just got a little too excited :p
