I am new here and wondering if this is a forum just for bunny lovers, which I am, or for people that raise meat rabbits too.

I love my rabbits, and I actually have one in my lap right now, as soon as I got up she hopped in here beside me.But there purpose is to birth baby rabbits for meat.

Well, actually, the first few litters will be for raising stock to produce meat rabbits. We bring two or three inside every night and let them run around. Heck, the little poop they make goes to tha garden anyway. sweep up real easy. They sure beat a dog or cat.

I am disabled due to a fall working on a side job without insurance no doubt, and I am stuck with a $736 a month check that isn't getting the job done. We nearly lost everything we had worked for, for years.

After all the things I have built through out my life, six years ago, I found myself in a position where I had to build yet one more thing after all I have built in my life. But it took about three of those years to come to grips with it. I didn't have a choice but to build myself a job that my body can do.

I started with chickens and was doing fair, until I became the fool that ordered 50 roosters for meat. Them sucker called every fox from three states for a free dinner.

I lost all my hens before I knew what was going on. I bought a tiller that I could run and started a garden. First two years was good and then some one put in the Gound Hogs news paper where the free lunch was.

Now I am on to raising rabbits along with my new flock of "hens". I do need to get me one white leg horn roosterbut he can't crow but so much. 50 of them crowed non stop.

Anyone here that raises rabbits for meat that can help me learn, I sure would appriciate it.

Hello Dennis :)

Nice to meet you!

This forum is more geared towards pet owners and show breeders. While some members do breed rabbits for consumption, we avoid any discussion of killing or processing of meat rabbits.

However, there are plenty of great breeders here that would be able to help you with caring for the pregnant does &kits, as well as assessing disease and injury.

For the meat production end of things, you would be best served by the following forums:

I hope that helps a bit :)

Hi there. Thanks for the heads up. I was concerned that I may upset some people about raising meat rabbits instead of pets and i understand the way of thinking. I brought my daughter a new kitten home today and I could imagine how she would hate me if I said i was going to eat that and to tell you the truth, I have had to walk on lillies with her about raiseing wabbits for meat.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up and the other sites. I will check them out.

Take care

Dennis

Thanks for understanding our policies and how we feel.

Welcome to the forum.

Oh, there isn't any problem about it at all. I unserstand as I really feel the same way myself. I don't know how I'll even be able to take them to a proccessor.

Let me tell you about something that happened to me a few years ago. I looked out the back window and there was a rabbit in the yard. I yelled at my wife to give me my bow and a hunting arrow. Well I went out the back door and drawed down on him and it stopped and looked at me. Now this is how I felt about it at the time. He looked at me and said, "You can't shhot me" and I had it dead to right but I couldn't releash the string. I just couldn't do it.

Then it took off running and ran behind the building back there and I rand to the other side and when it ran out it stopped, and looked at me and said "You still can't shoot me" and again, I had it dead to right, but I could let go to save my life, and at the time I was out of work and we needed it for food. But I just couldn't shoot it to save my life. My wife has picked at me about that ever since. See, I was in the 82nd Airborne and earned my Rangers tab and I was a sniper, so she's like yea, my big bad sniper can't even kill a wabbit, LOL.

But it wasjust the way the dang little thing stopped at looked at me.

Anyway, I understand how the most people here feel and i sure don't want to come in making people mad at me. that's why I asked to start with.

But i will stay around some because I plan onraising some pet wabbits too. Matter of fact, I am going to be selling as many of the extra bucks from the Californians and New Zealands mixes,as I can for pets myself. i am hoping to make a bussinessof that also.

Anyway, thanks for a nice civil welcome to the forum. Take care

Dennis

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo.

I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around.
