Hello, I've been a member of this forum for a couple months now but haven't been back in awhile. I had joined because I started fostering a mother Californian and her 3 kits...and then she had 9 more surprise babies in my care.

Well, since then I've had the wonderful opportunity to foster Fifi who was a matted/shaved angora who stayed with me for a couple weeks (she got adopted today). Today I brought home an emergency foster rabbit family of a lionhead mama with 2, 3 week old kits and 4, 4 day old kits. Ironically they needed me the day I adopted my own rabbit!

I adopted a TINY 1.5 year old Holland lop buck who I've named Theodore and I love him already!

Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure :)

Here's Theodore! <3

Welcome to the Forum. What a big heart you have taking in those sweet bunnies. Especially the babies.

Love the face of your Theodore. Looks like a lover. What a sweetie Fifi looks like. Poor baby, lost her fur, but it will grow back with your TLC. Never seen an overmatted rabbit, but I have a dog, and it's a disgrace when you see them in that condition. These animals are high maintenance, but it's so rewarding.

And what a sweet Mama Lion Head and her babies.

Wishing you all the luck. Look forward to hearing updates.

Very cute buns!! Welcome:biggrin:

Thanks you guys! They're all very cute. I've gotta say though, I can't WAIT for Theodore to be neutered this week. I can tell he's quite "angsty" and sprayed by his food last night. Mama and babies are doing wonderfully and I'm hoping after a little time warming up that they'll be up for some out of cage roaming time!

Well one of the babies has gone a little cold. I just noticed it when the baby looked like it hadn't nursed. I have it sitting in my shirt right now (hooray for cleavage) trying to warm it up. Anything else I can do? It looks like mama or babies has been peeing where the nest is, so there was a big wet and cold spot in the corner of the nest. I moved them to the other corner and will clean out the cage tomorrow. Poor baby :( I hope he makes it. I also set up a little heater fan to help keep the nest box warm. Is this ok?

Well I held the baby in front of my little space heater fan for about 5 minutes (shielded by my hands) and then it all of a sudden started SCREAMING. Well, squeaking, but its mouth was wide open and it was shrieking and fully extending its body. I put it in the nest with its siblings and it promptly calmed down. Could that have been a, "Alright alright I won't give up" shriek? I picked it up a few minutes later and it's body was warm, and the heater is pointed at the nest far enough away to where my hand was comfortably warm on top of the nest. I'll check him in the morning.

I don't think it's going to make it. This morning it was out of the nest and very cold but still breathing every few seconds. It also still hasn't eaten. I think something might be wrong with it because when I warmed it up last night it started shrieking and extending its body. I put it back in the nest and I'm just gonna let nature take its course on this one.

Sad to hear, but unfortunately these things happen. How's the little one doing now since this last post?

The little one didn't make it, but I think something was wrong with it so that's okay :)

As for the other three, they are doing amazing! They should be opening their eyes any day now :D

And the older kits who are almost old enough to be sexed and named!

Sorry to hear you lost one, but it's probably for the best. It happens.

Babies are so sweet! Doing an excellent job with them. Stick with your plan and you will see these sweetie grow into such lovely bunnies.
