I'm the proud owner of one of the most "princey" rabbits in the whole world. His name is Machibo and he's a Dalmation Rex. He's super picky and I've been trying to find a treat the he likes enough for me to start training him with.
The only thing I found that he likes is bananas, and I don't want to use that to train him because they're high in protein.
He's a picky bun-bun and he's a little over-weight right now, but we're working on that.

So my question is, what's your bun's favorite treat? What do they go bonkers for?

I used Kaytee Healthy Bits to train Lilly. They probably aren't the best treat to give to them as training but I liked them cause they have dried papaya in them, she loves them, and you can break one of the treats up in tiny pieces to use throughout the day.

I use pellets for CoCoa cause she's a baby and she goes crazy for them. But I can't give her unlimited pellets like most baby rabbits cause she has tummy troubles so that's why she loves them so much :p

I think I also heard something about rolled oats being used as a training treat, not completely sure though.

My Machibo loves papaya, he picks it out of his food blend and doesn't eat the rest.
Where would I find rolled oats? Just a regular petstore?

And thank you sometimes he's too cute to resist.

I'm not sure I've never bought any before but you could probably find some at Walmart. Maybe check on their website or something :)

You want to be careful about feeding too many carbs and sugars to your rabbit. You only want to feed small amounts. For treats you can cut up a piece of carrot into tiny pieces for training. Any new food you feed your rabbit, you want to introduce slowly and just give a little bit each day for a few days, to make sure it doesn't upset your rabbits digestion.

Food blend? I'm hoping you don't mean he's got seed bit looking mixed food? For one, it's less healthy and for two it's considered a choking hazard from what I've seen. They're supposed to have plain pellets, with veggies and then fruits as treats.

I personally use Martins little friends apple dumpling or banana treats. I get the sample packs in the rabbit food I buy sometimes and Peppy seems to love them.

You can get rolled oats at just about any store that sells food. The common name for them are old fashoned uncooked oatmeal. Do NOT get the quick oats. It is more expensive to get them at grocery stores. When I had my rabbitry I made a conditioning mix that I gave all my rabbits each day. It had Rolled or crimped oats and rolled or crimped barley amngst other secret ingredients. My feed store sold it to me for $1 a pound or $10 for 50lbs. I never had a rabbit that did not like it. My rabbits all got 1/4 cup each per day.

For treats for my current rabbits I give papaya, raisens, banana, and grapes. The banana is a new thing that they go crazy over. You can also give Chereos. Most rabbits really like them. My girls are weird and do not like it. Every other rabbit that I have ever given them to LOVED it. We used them at shows to get the rabbits to eat.

I'm a fan of raisins or craisins (other dried fruits with no added sugar would work too) for situations where I want to maximize the # of treats I can give before they've reached their limit for the day (1 tsp per 2 lbs body weight MAX) because they're not messy like fresh fruit and they can be cut in half or even thirds to make tiny little morsels.

Also keep in mind that if you use dried fruit as treats, you shouldn't use as much as you would use with fresh fruit, because the dried fruit has concentrated sugars.

I've been working on training my two and I just use their pellets to do it. They share 1/4 cup of pellets a day and I give them about a third of that in their dish for breakfast. The rest of it they eat out of my hands throughout the day (right now I'm just trying to train them to not be afraid of me). Before Timmy died I had been working on clicker training him and I was also using his daily pellets as treats.

I recently learned about the simple pellet thing. I'm making the switch over to Oxford Timothy Pellets right now, but I was told the switch needs to be gradual so he still has access to the fruit and seed blend, but he seems to really enjoy the Oxford pellets as well. Which makes me glad.

Peppy is a cute rabbit name! Thanks for the input. :D

He's named after Peppy from Starfox :3
I'm glad you know about pellets and are switching! I didn't know that and just wanted to make sure you're informed. :) Thats probably why he's so chubby
