Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help as I'm a bit worried.

When I first got my rabbits I was told they were both females, until a few months later, I noticed one was actually male(who is now neutered). The doe(who is a giant continental) has given birth to around 10 kits. A few days before giving birth she started gathering hay in her mouth and built a large nest in her hutch and has also pulled out the fur under her belly and hidden the kits under this.

She gave birth between Wednesday night and Thursday morning and the kits seem to be getting smaller and I'm not sure if she is feeding them. :( I don't know whether I'm being paranoid so I thought if I uploaded some pics someone might know better if they are not being fed? I'm also not 100% sure if she is producing milk, I tried to check but couldn't see any fluid. I'm going to try and take her to the vet tomorrow also.

The pics are on http://www.flickr.com/photos/84218260@N05/

Thanks

One of the best ways to tell if the babies are being fed is if you pick them up and look at their bellies they should look round and full.

Also you will not see the mom feeding the babies so even though you might not see her feeding them she probably is. Although there is a slight chance she isn't, in that case you would need to hand feed the babies fortunately I have never run into that problem but I know many that have here is a very good website on that topic: http://www.ehow.com/how_6467099_hand-feed-baby-rabbits.html

good luck hope I helped

ps: I think it is a good idea for them to go see a vet if hand feeding is what you plan on doing
