First off, I would like to sincerely apologize to Watermelons if I am in fact proven wrong that my rabbits are not Rex rabbits, and end up being a different breed then I was told and believed.

There been some discrepancy about what breed of rabbit my two rabbits are. I was told and understand them to be purebred Rex rabbits, but some people are thinking otherwise. I could be wrong about this, and would really love to know the truth. I don't care one little bit what breed they are, and if they are purebred or not, but now I am curious and have to know. I will include information on both of my rabbits, including pictures. Both are sisters, and turned two years old this June.

The first rabbit is mostly black with some white spots/patches. Her name is Moonlight (Moon). She is shy yet affectionate, and very curious.
Fur: soft/ velvety

This next rabbit is named Mistletoe (Missy). She is very hyper, normally always happy, curious about EVERYTHING, and loves people

If anyone can figure out my mystery rabbits I will be thrilled! Thanks!!

No apparent breed stands out to me. I can certainly say their colors though. Moon is a Black Gold Tipped Steel (BGTS or just GTS) as far as body color. (I'll address the white later) and missy is a Chestnut agouti.

Both are an average size. This could be a result of anything really. Probably no lopped rabbits in their history due to their thinner very straight ears no giant breeds were probably a father or mother to either since they are both around 6lbs. You should be looking at parents who would have been maximum 10 lbs. If a parent was 10 lbs then the other parent was smaller.

Now the white markings for them. It can either be because they have Dutch rabbits in their background or because somewhere in there they have a Vienna marked or blue eyed white rabbit parent. Either of these are a possibility. For moon you would call her color Vienna marked GTS and missy a Vienna marked chestnut agouti.

Yeah that would make sense. Their parents were both slightly larger than them, but unfortunately I don't have any pictures. Their dad was mostly black, and their mom was black and white- but mostly white. Both parents had straight ears, and the mom had a very fluffy coat. However, I don't remember much about the dad. I have no idea where Missy got her coat from, but the more I think about it, her dad may have had a brown paw.

I don't really believe that they are purebred Rex rabbits. A Rex rabbits fur looks a bit more thick and velvety than your buns. Rex bunny I found off google:

I agree that there is probably no Lop in their breeding.

It's hard to say specifically what breed they are, but they are super cute :D

Awwww thx! I now know that they r definitely not purebred Rex's and have no idea how I didn't realize it sooner. I agree that there is no Lop in them.

We have a Rabbit Identification Key here on Rabbits Online. It has a Rex/MiniRex page with lots of pictures of rabbits with Rex fur - and having lived with two different MiniRex rabbits over the last twelve years, I have to agree that the photos posted in this thread don't look anything like Rex fur.

This is the link to the Rex page: http://www.rabbitsonline.net/showthread.php?t=77879

There's also a page with pictures of the different kinds of fur you might find in upright-eared rabbits:

I forgot to mention another thing- moonlight has a roll under her chin (I have no idea what it is really called) like a few breeds of Mini Satins, but the one that looks just like hers is the Siamese.

That is a Dewlap, it has nothing to do with the rabbits breed. Typically unspayed females have larger ones, and some females don't have 1 at all. Heck even some males have small ones, though a lot more rare.

Ok I knew there was some name for it, but didn't know if it had to do with breed or not
