Hello all!

My female rabbit (4 years old) has dealt with sore hocks for a while now. The big problem is that every time her wounds are getting better, she bites in them so they break up and bleed.

Is there a way to stop her from doing that?

Thanks in advance.

They're probably itching her when they scab. Do you have any neosporin you can use to protect the wounds? Maybe even try bandaging her feet up. Also be wary of infections. If there is pus or bad inflammation I'd take her to the vet for proper treatment.

Some posters have used newborn socks on their rabbit's feet and then used vetwrap around the top to keep them on. Don't wrap too tight though. It allows any medication you put on their feet to stay on and let it heal without the bunny going after it. I guess another option might be to use an e-collar (like you put on cats) so your rabbit can't chew on them before they're finished healing. Something must be bothering her for her to keep going after her feet though.

Thanks for the replies!

I have checked her wounds thoroughly and they look really fine with no sign of bad inflammation.

Since posting, she hasn't been biting her wounds and they're healing very well. I have used medication against infections so as long she will leave her wounds alone I think her sore hock days are over :)

(I also tried bandaging her feet but after twenty minutes or so, she'd start removing them so I stopped doing that)
