I read about this in a couple of websites and I even saw pics... so, what exactly *happens*to the bunny to get into this frozen behavior?

They just space out - like if they're sleeping. But you have to be careful when you trance as they can snap out of it really quickly. So always be ready for them to "wake up" if you are clipping nails etc. while trancing.

Trancing is a 'play-dead' reaction to being carried away by predators and is a fear thing I believe. It doesn't hurt them though.

I usually trance for doing their weekly checkupof check nails, feet, teeth etc.

Hmm, how convenient!!! I will try that since I haven't been able totrim Sabrina's nails yet and they are huge.

Thanks!

Well in the wild rabbits get into trance when held upside down by their preditors to play dead! They look like fully asleep during that but, although they are not fully awake, they are aware of things! That's why they can snap out of it whenever they want! Trancing is very useful when we want to clip nails or check the bunnies but i think we shouldn't use it for reason! Bunnies usually do not like it! After every time i trance my boys they will alway go away fliping their back legs at me!

If you go on youtube.com and search trancing rabbits there are some videos of it! I don't have much luck with my rabbits either.

Most rabbits I've held will trance if you turn them on their back (Slowy) and stroke the top of their head lightly (Or cover their eyes like that).... That works for me, anyway :)
Good luck with yours; trancing is pretty useful if you can get it to work~

OMG, really! I will do that right now... How fun, I guess we can find videos on YouTube about anything nowadays! LoL

My mom put Simi in a trance the other day, and Simi didnt seemd bothered by it at all. I read about it and can do it now... I can get her ont oher back, but she seems to snap out of it pretty quick, but after all, I did do it at the first of her play time...

Good luck!

Giving nose rubs while they are on their back will also help. You will know when they are 'tranced' as their body will relax. A good test is to stroke their front paws, when they are fully tranced their legs will be fully relaxed and you will be able to move their legs quite freely. As others have said they do snap out of it pretty quick so make sure you have lots of soft furnishings around you in case they decideto jump.
