I have been meaning to get this message written all day - and now I've read about pinksalamander's loss of William and I feel like the need for this message is all the more urgent now.

So I'm pulling out my soapbox....

A year ago today, a friend of mine (and one of our forum members) - Alicia (JadeIcing) lost her precious Samantha very suddenly. There was no warning in advance that Samantha was ill....it seemed like one minute she was here - the next minute she was on the way to the vet - and the next minute she was gone.

As much as Ali grieved (and still grieves) - at least she had pictures she took of Samantha the day before in a photo shoot. They won't bring Samantha back...but they help to keep her memory alive.

As many of you know - our beloved Tiny collapsed in February - we had 48 hours with him before he passed. Less than a week before I'd taken pictures of him outside playing with Miss Bea. Although he looked ragged in those photos (he was going through a molt we thought) - those photos are priceless to me.

Photos and videos are a way we can have help our bunnies to "live on" in our memories. Its a way we can still connect with others when we talk about them - to show them a picture or a video.

We think "they're healthy" and "they're young...they'll live a long time" - but the truth is - we never know.

So please folks - this weekend - or sometime next week - take some time to get some photos of your bunnies.

Then - BACK up those photos.....so if your computer crashes or if photobucket goes down - you still have them. I suggest burning them to a dvd or cd if possible...maybe even a couple of them. I know one person who every year puts a dvd of all their photos and videos in their safe deposit box at the bank....

Finally...what has helped me so much since losing Tiny and others - is going back and rereading my blogs. Consider starting a blog for your bunnies - not so that others will read and respond (although that is good) - but so you can go back later on and remember the cute things your rabbits did or the things that frustrated you (you'll miss them later). As much as it is nice to have folks read and comment on my blogs - the truth is - they're there largely to help me remember things later on. After Tiny died, I think I read his blog 5 times in a 2 day period - weeping the whole time I read it. But it helped me to remember the good times - and the bad.

Well - with all that said -I'll get off my soapbox and go start taking more photos too....

wellput! i keep wondering how i'll mangewhen Jamie passes. i wanna put more on here(i'll probably edit tomorrow), but right now i gotta run, mom and i are watching a movie tonight and(speaking of his bunny buns:bunnydance:)Jamie still needs his dinner! but good job!

I have to say I agree with Peg. I lost Angel in one day. She was fine the night before, the next morning not right and by 11:30 that night, she was gone:(. I was taking tons of pics for awhile before that, so I got tons;).

Take those pics!:)

Oh, Peg, you get me every time with these posts. That was so well said. I hope you inspired someone out there to start a blog, take some pictures and videos... Or maybe just todo something as small as giving their rabbit an extra pat on the head tonight.

And, Anna, I know what you mean. Right now, I feel like I love BunBun almost as if he were a brother to me. It's kind of "creepy" (So say my friends- as they think it's odd thatI'll get a strawberry, etc, take a bit of it, let BunBun take a bite, than continue eating.) to some, but it's true. I realize how much hemeans to me right now, and... I look back sometimes, and realize that he's not even a year old yet. If he lives to even be 8 or 9... let alone 10, 11, or 12... I'll probably be so bonded with him that I have no idea what I'd do when he leaves- I'd just be so lost without him...

And I don't mean that in an "Overdramatic" sence- BunBun is, almost literally, my life. I mean, my parents are seperated and always yelling, my brother is just pesters me so much, and is just SO selfish, greedy, incoherent, and so oblivious of his surroundings and other's feelingsthat, most of the time, I'm hating him. At school, I'm never exacly the "popular" type (I'm the kind of person who has only a few good friends, and that's about it), etc etc etc. BunBun really does, in a way, "keep me going". I just love going to school, because I'd knowhow excitedI'll be to come home and see him. He is really very inspiring, kind, sweet, and gentle- Maybe a bit stubborn, but, still.

Uhm, yeah. Anyway, I'm going to go upload some pictures...

:runningrabbit:With all those pictures you should make some keepsakes. I keep a scrapbook but another idea is to go to Walgreens or another store with photo services and get them to put pictures on mugs or make calenders with your bunny pictures. That way you can alway rember your bunnies!

I understand this so much (obviously). Even if it is not a pet that you are absolutley in love with... i had rabbits when i was alot younger... about 5 or 6. They were lovely little rabbits but i barely remember them. I found one picture of the albino boy Bubbles... i lost it soon after. I guess we are lucky now that we have digital cameras! I still don't have a picture of Squeak.. i can't even remember what he looked like really. I wish i has more photos.

And also keep your blogs updated! Because you'll never realise how nice it is to capture that moment in time, that little anecdote you wrote, that day of all those pictures you took. At the time i doesn't seem like anything because you have them their for you, but when they are gone its all you have and its so nice to see them presented out in that daily life. It means you can attach memories to them. What had happened that day, where you were. Every little story counts.

I agree. While I do have pics of Raph, to me I don't have nearly enough. And I regret to this day not getting a digital camera earlier, as I never got to capture him on video. How I wish I had just one video of him, when he was still able to hop and play. Just one... :(

The last pictures I had of Sam for some reason were the best I had ever taken of her. So yes I treasure those pictures more than any others.

But more important to me than the pictures, than the stories I have shared with everyone is the time I spent with her.

So take time out no camara, just you and your rabbit. Even with my bonded ones I take time to spend alone time with each. Those memories I hold more dear than anything.

Peg had been posting similar messages on a regular basis after her precious Tiny passed away... I won't forget because I had been putting it off when she put up a reminder and I kicked myself in the donkey and did just as she said. 2 days later, my special boy Ashton was gone. No warning, no nothing. Fine one minute, gone the next. Those pictures are priceless. So I hope everyone will take this advice to heart because it all happens too quickly and once it happens, it can't be reversed. :rose:

I have somehow last my camera (it's around here somewhere....) But this is avery important reminder as with Roren, I took ALOT of pictures before we went to MN so I wouldn't miss him as much, then about a week, maybe two after we got back, he was gone:(

Good advice about backing up the pictures. While I've been lucky enough never to experience a hard drive crash or computer meltdown, I know a few people who have. My brother has actually reformatted his computer about 4 times due to viruses and has repeatedly lost all his saved files (stuff he didn't care about though).

For me that would be devastating to lose my now 30 gigabytes of bunny pictures and video, so I really need to get an external hard drive as back up. It's something I've been meaning to do for a while now but I keep putting it off! :? Until that happens I may have to burn the files to DVD (which I always thought was strictly for movies, so thanks for shedding the light on that option :)). Now if only I had bought the DVD burner when I ordered this computer...
