I have been meaning to get this message written all day - and now I've read about pinksalamander's loss of William and I feel like the need for this message is all the more urgent now.
So I'm pulling out my soapbox....
A year ago today, a friend of mine (and one of our forum members) - Alicia (JadeIcing) lost her precious Samantha very suddenly. There was no warning in advance that Samantha was ill....it seemed like one minute she was here - the next minute she was on the way to the vet - and the next minute she was gone.
As much as Ali grieved (and still grieves) - at least she had pictures she took of Samantha the day before in a photo shoot. They won't bring Samantha back...but they help to keep her memory alive.
As many of you know - our beloved Tiny collapsed in February - we had 48 hours with him before he passed. Less than a week before I'd taken pictures of him outside playing with Miss Bea. Although he looked ragged in those photos (he was going through a molt we thought) - those photos are priceless to me.
Photos and videos are a way we can have help our bunnies to "live on" in our memories. Its a way we can still connect with others when we talk about them - to show them a picture or a video.
We think "they're healthy" and "they're young...they'll live a long time" - but the truth is - we never know.
So please folks - this weekend - or sometime next week - take some time to get some photos of your bunnies.
Then - BACK up those photos.....so if your computer crashes or if photobucket goes down - you still have them. I suggest burning them to a dvd or cd if possible...maybe even a couple of them. I know one person who every year puts a dvd of all their photos and videos in their safe deposit box at the bank....
Finally...what has helped me so much since losing Tiny and others - is going back and rereading my blogs. Consider starting a blog for your bunnies - not so that others will read and respond (although that is good) - but so you can go back later on and remember the cute things your rabbits did or the things that frustrated you (you'll miss them later). As much as it is nice to have folks read and comment on my blogs - the truth is - they're there largely to help me remember things later on. After Tiny died, I think I read his blog 5 times in a 2 day period - weeping the whole time I read it. But it helped me to remember the good times - and the bad.
Well - with all that said -I'll get off my soapbox and go start taking more photos too....
