Ya, rechecked there's definatly no life in the kits, nestbox is out, I put fresh hay and treats in with Princess and she's chewing happily. What a way to bring you down on Christmas :(I was sort of expecting this since it was a first litter though but still.

Thanks Paul, I'm starting to get excited about Christmas again, it was kind of just the shock of finding them dead that brought me down. I didn't really have time to get excited about having kits.

I'm sorry. That really sucks. It was probably because she was a first time momma.

Did you plan on breeding her anyway? Because if you do in the future than she will hopefully be a better mom.

Ya I think it's because she was a first time momma, plus she was pretty young like 6 months and 2 weeks. All the kits were pink and black on their backs and head, I think the one I managed to pick up was gonna be tort like his mammy. I wasn't really planning on breeding her but if she got the chance I'd think she would be a great momma.

Oh, Grace i'm so sorry. I only saw the thread now. So Princess must have conceived when your litle sis left them out.... That's such a shame.I dread that happening to me. What a shame. this would have been such a lovely Christmas surprise. RIP little ones

Thanks Sabine and Degrassi, well I'm really happy with Princess, you'd never think she was after having kits! She even went out for a run today and binkied around and her appetite is perfect. I suppose it's because she's quite fit and healthy, she has a huge enclosure where she can have a decent tear around and a fresh fruit and veg diet.

The worst part now is going to be getting rid of the kits, but dad will do that when it's dark.

Does will act perfectly normal after giving birth, if they don't something is wrong. A rabbit is a prey animal, that is why they don't get all fat and waddly when pregnant like cats and dogs, they would be targets for predators. They have to recover from kindling quickly for the same reason.

I'm really sorry for your loss... :( I hope if you breed her again, it will be more successful.

Her milk should be all dried up in 2-3 days, but it can last as long as 6-7 days. Keep an eye on her, check her belly and nipples daily for a few days and make sure she doesn't have any swellings, hard lumpsor "hot spots" around her nipples. Occassionally, they can develop mastitis.
