I have a male 3 year old Florida White. He hasn't drank or eaten anything in over 24 hours. I forced some water with a syringe which he wasn't opposed to and he has a runny nose and some hard, clear object on the corner of his left eye. I am afraid to remove it because I don't know if it will hurt him or not. I tried feeding him hay but once I put it in his mouth he will take one bite then spit it out. I can't afford a vet. Anybody have any idea what's going on? Please help!!!

Have you tried giving water in a bowl too? Sounds like he's having a possible tooth issue since he doesn't want to eat and maybe the bottle irritates his mouth?

Basically you need to see a vet to have him checked over and possibly trim his teeth if that's the issue. You could possibly find a local rabbit breeder who can do tooth trims for you since some know how. But it may or may not be a dental problem. If it's not the issue, good luck. Is he still pooping/peeing? It's important to keep his gut functioning and moving.

I just now gave him a water dish. He does have diarrhea and doesn't want to move his legs seperately so his butt must be sore. I took away his pellets and he has only hay and some spinach.

Try the oats for now, and get electrolytes in him ASAP since he is going to get very dehydrated very quickly. If he keeps having runny poos tomorrow I'd recommend a vet trip. Even though you say you can't afford it, it's in his best interest to help him.

Did you figure out what's up with his eye? Hydration is important for sure, and figuring out what is causing all these issues, like the diarrhea.

Stasis is a symptom, not a cause. If he's having a runny nose and issue in one eye and dropping food, it's likely a tooth infection (but a very sick bunny will let food drop like that) and he will need antibiotics.

If it is an infection and it's affecting his GI tract, that's not good. He sounds pretty sick. :(

Is there a rescue in your area? Somebody actually looking at him may be better able to pinpoint it, but it honestly sounds like a vet issue.

I'd guess that a 'hail mary' might be Critical Care, pain meds and injectible penicillin, which is probably the cheapest, but without knowing what you're dealing with, ANY treatment can do more harm than good.

A pro-biotic like Benebac or Florentero would also be good.

If nothing else, though, Critical Care and a pain med like Baby Motrin.

And keep him warm, don't let his temperature drop. Especially if you're force feeding him, he needs to be warm.

sas
