As a lot of you know my baby Milly passed on the 8th July.

It does not feel right not having a rabbit in my home.

Today I phoned a couple of people regarding rabbits and 2 people have said they will keep hold of their buns for me even though I did' nt ask then too!

One is a 12 week old female steel German Lop. The other is a 9 week old male black mini lop. Neither of them live locally to me, they are both a fair distance from each other and my friend can only take me to one of them tomorrow as I don't drive.

I'm confused about what a mini lop looks like in the UK, as I know the breed differs from country to country. I have't heard of a German Lop until today!

At the minute I am using a mobile phone to access the internet as my computer has crashed. Could someone try and post pics of the breeds for me, especially the steel colour as I can't get any up on this stupid phone!

Both owners claim their buns are super affectionate and tame. I asked the kids which bun they prefered and they both picked different ones!

Any advice or pics would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Personally honey I think if you are going to get a new bunny so soon after loosing Milly then it would be best to go for the little girl. I think having a boy that looks a lot like Milly will be too close to the pain spot

Heres a pic of a german lop. It isnt "steel" though

Sorry Im not of much help.
But I agree, the steel german lop might be better, because a black lop may be very hard to hadle emotionaly after such a fresh loss.

This is a German Lop...

This is the color description of a "steel" rabbit....

"Dark Steel - Dark Steel grey merging to a slate blue undercolour, the whole interspersed with black guard hairs. Extreme tips of fur to be tipped with grey. The mixture carried well down the sides, flanksnad hind feet. Belly colour may be duller and lighter shade, Ears to match body colour. Eyes deep hazel.
Light Steel - A medium grey merging to a sandy/brown band with a grey/blue undercolour going down to the skin, the whole interspersed with grey guard hairs. Extreme tips of the fur to be tipped with gold/brown. the mixture to be carried well down the sides, flanks and hind feet. Belly colour may be duller and lighter shade. Ears to match body. Eyes deep hazel."

The black minilop (which is smaller than a dwarf lop, about 3-4 pounds, ish)

Londonlops have a lot of good pics.

Hope that helps, but please don't rush into anything, and please also think about whether they will be safe in your house from whatever happened to Milly.

Wow, I was really slow, lol. No one had posted when I started hunting, lol.

I recommend the German Lop as it will be different from Milly in looks and stuff and I think you'll have an easier adjustment..

Besides - I think I like the look of them!

I think the German Lop lady said she was black with gold ticks. I know she makes more sense but this little Mini Lop is tugging at my heart strings.

Maybe you could wait until something nearer comes up so that you can meet them at an early age and see their personality. I know you have found these two ready to go, but you will always be able to find random rabbits from breeders. Also, have you considered rescuing?

I tried to find a local rescue yesterday. I telephoned vets and other animal rescues but no one knew of any which I was suprised at. I know there is Bunny Burrows but its just too far, I wish I drove!

I have also asked about the possibility of the VHD virus and as long as I buy new fleece and bleach all the cage I should be fine. Which I have already done.

I know Im havent given myself much time but I feel its my first step towards the long road to healing.

There is also the possibility of a chocolate coloured male lop, not sure of breed but is not far from the German.

Sometimes the best way to start healing is by bringing another animal into the home to be loved and to help fill the void.

As long as you've taken all the precautions for VHD...I would think it would be ok....but I know nothing much about VHD.

You're in my thoughts and prayers as you think on this and make decisions..

If you live near Preston in Lancashire I still have 3 bunnies that need forever homes. They will be 5 weeks old on Sunday. Dad is Lionhead and Mum is lionhead mix. Here is the thread.

Unfortunately I live on the North East coast. I have been offered lots me lionheads, but ideally I want another lop.

Ive got the German Lop! I couldnt leave her in the terrible conditions she was living in. The whole place smelt terrible, all I seen in her cage was poops and wet smelly hay! How any of those rabbits dont have fly strike is beyond me.

This is what makes me so angry when rabbits kept in there awful conditions live and Milly died when he was so well cared for!

She is very placid and quiet. She is very underweight for her age, she weighs 428g. Considering they are not a small breed, I would think thats small.

She is cute, looks nothing like Milly so maybe she is the one. Too late if she isnt as she is not going back there.

I think Im going to report this lady to the RSPCA, she acts like she loves all her buns but no animal should be allowed to live like that.

Good on you.

It sounds like this little one has tugged at your heart strings for being herself, which is good.

You can feel very proud of yourself for rescuing her, and I really hope you and her are happy together. I can't wait to see pics of her :)

I truly help having another friend helps you.

PS, reporting her would be a GREAT idea.

Congrats! Im still shocked about Milly though. Yet again you have saved another bun from a horrible life:D. I cant wait to see some pics! Whats her name?
