My little girl Twitch has Pink Eye and is on antibiotics and eye drops. For the past week I have been giving this to her twice a day and she has not really been getting better. Her eye now is white and crusty looking and the vet keeps charging me tons of money to keep looking at her (I'min college) and each time she says she is fine but I do not believe her however she is the only one close to me (45 miles away) that will even look at my EXOTIC rabbit :( I attatched a picture of her eye, any insight would be awesome thanks!!

Hi, I'll move this to the infirmary for you so you can get advice on what her condition is. I reccommend looking at our lists of rabbit-savvy vets in your area. http://www.rabbitsonline.net/view_forum.php?id=9

Your vet who says it isn't anything is totally wrong. It could be an eye infection, however it wouldn't be called pink eye. There are other more serious possibilities as well, such as an abscess, tooth root problem, or impaction of the tear duct.

The eye drops have improved it some, but not enough. You will need to take her to an "exotics" vet to get proper treatment of this. The first thing I would do is get vet insurance at www.petinsurance.com . It is only $12 a month and they cover many large bills. Then find a good vet off of our list or through www.rabbit.org . The vet should look at the eye and tear duct, and take an x-ray of her head to look for problems with the roots of her teeth. These can cause problems in the eye because they are so close to the eye.

Many members can probably also personally recommend a vet for you if you list your location.

Good luck!

I think that the vet needs to culture the bacteria or at least try different antibiotics
Ihad a bun with a terrible eye infection at the beginning of this year. The vets here in LaX tried 3 different drops and/or salvesbut nothing helped it.

I was at wits end and traveled to a more saavy vet near Madison. He thought that Beau's eye looked very bad and the last attempt was to use chloramphenical !% opthalmic salve. if this didn't work I planned to have him PTS
The chlorampenical salve worked WORKED very quickly.
My rabbit did not have conjunctivitis but had a corneal ulcer.(recurring)

I guess that I think that the drops you are using are not speciific to the bacteria in the eye.
I would push your vet to try some other meds and /or culture the bacteria. Or choose another vet who would know to do this.

I am giving you some links on eyes. The last video is on conjunctivitis (pink eye)

you may also wish to try to find an animal opthalmologist as many of them do treat exotics.
If you go the best doctors first you actually save time and money ( I have learnd this the hard way)

thanks everyone! Im definitely going to look into that pet insurance ive only had her for three weeks and were up to a whole lotta money

Where are you located? That first pic of your rabbit's eye looks like impaction of the tear duct.

There is a rabbit knowledge vet here in Bremerton, WA. His name is Dr. Charles Crawford. He is on Perry Ave in East Bremerton. He is a real goodvet. I take my two rabbits to him. He is cheap, but good.
