I wouldn't feel comfortable with boarding a rabbit at the vet's because most vets do not have extensive experience with rabbits.

I know someone who boarded her Fuzzy Lop at the vets while she went on vacation. . .

The vet decided to shave the rabbit's coat while it was there and ended up cutting the rabbit a number of times. The rabbit went into shock and died.

I do occasionally rabbit-sitting. The bunns are kept in my house and treated like royalty :) We currently have an English Angora "Chessie" visiting while her family is in the UK.

Hi... I have my 5 bunnies and I also do on and off pet-sitting (member of pet-sitters International.) If all of you lived near meI would be one rich woman. I have sat for bunnies of friends and I take care of them EXACTLY as if they are my own. We never never take a vacation as I would trust no one with the set-up I have here for the 5. I also do not think that a professional pet-sitter is the best route when trying to get someone unless that person is a rabbit lover and is really "into rabbits." Believe me you could tell when talking to someone. Because rabbits can "turn" so quickly from healthly to ill, and because of the subtle behaviour that only we know is a budding problem I would not expect a "generic" pet sitter to be able to pick up on it. I guess that one could try to get someone off this site. For example ..I would trust Lissa (lives here ) to pet-sit my rabbits as I know her and her knowledge and her love of rabbits and I expect that she would trust me as she has seen me in action at the shelter. It is possible that if I had 1 rabbit or maybe two (caged) that I would allow someone to watch them for several days but I would be calling all the time and wouldbe a wreck. Family that knows the rabbits is another option as they can be taught over time and get to know the bunnies habits. Maybe bunny owners are meant to stay home. Sorry I'm so Pessimistic :(

I don't think it is being pessimistic at all!:) Both my family and Tonys family think we are nuts. They aren't big pet people. They don't see why we would want this many. :?

Tony and I just kind of accepted the fact that with so many bunnies the chances were that we were never going too far awayfrom home! And if we did we would be calling all the time to see if they were all right. As I said before our cats are no problem...half the timeI don'teven think they know we've left the house! Its just the bunns. If one of them is sick early detection is the thing that is going to save them. To have someone looking after them that you don't have 100% confidence in isn't going to make for a good vacation in any event anyway! I know I would be worrying the whole time about all the little what ifs.:?

The only good thing about petsitters here is that they don't charge by the pet! If they did charge by the pet Iwouldn't be able to afford to go anywhere anyway!!:D I think the petsitters we have been looking at charge $12 per visit for an hour. And we would want them to come to the house no less than twice a day. I really miss the girl that used to petsit for us about5 years ago. She was more cat oriented but she would alsolive at the house to look after the pets. It was $50-$75 dollars a day and she would stay for as long as you wanted. She also watered the plants, did any chores you wanted/needed done but that cost extra!:D
