My two oldest have 2 pet mice, were 3 but oldest died 2 months ago.. Anyway Snow the oldest of the two is injured. I don't know how this happened or when as the boys normailly care for them. I just make sure they do. She is absolutely horrible looking. Her leg, shoulder and side are enormously swollen. There are wounds in that area and they appear to be infected. Is there anything I can do for her here at home? I will take her to the vet otherwise but wanted to see what you guys think. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so very much. I hate to see her suffer, it's killing me. Oh and she is still eating and appears to be drinking well.

She has an appointment in the morning. I feel so horrible! I haven't been looking at them and handling them everyday because my 2 oldest have. They are 14 and 11. I thought I had taught them better than that. They wanted pets of their own and they got mice because they are so easy to care for. I should have looked at them.

Oh, don't feel horrible, Hun...ya never can tell what kids (even older kids) will know is normal and isn't. ((HUGS))

I agree to take him to the vet. I don't know much about mice, but I also just wanted to encourage you about the kids. :)

I don't mean any disrespect when I say this, but maybe one of the boys dropped the mouse, it broke the leg and the boys didn't want to tell you about it?
That could explain the swelling and the wounds could be because the mouse was trying to chew off the broken limb.

Either way the best advice I can give you is to just teach your kids what the warning signs are! Don't be angry at them, even at 14 boys still can't tell when things are wrong with animals.
Just explain the dangers calmly and make sure it doesn't happen again!

I took Snow to the vet and she gave her an injection of antibiotic and she is staying there for the night as she isn't looking well at all today. I'm pretty worried as she is the SWEETEST lil mouse ever and she's now a lil over 2 years old. I couldn't ask for a better lil girl. She even licks our hands when we hold her. I know it seems silly to some people but please pray for her, my oldest son (her boy) is at his dads since yesterday morning and I know how heartbroken he will be. He is my Dr.Doolittle boy usually and has a good bond with her. I can't believe he didn't notice. Oh and the vet said its fight wounds from the other mouse. She had fresh ones this morning with some bleeding a little. My poor girl.

Snow passed away at the vets. I am assured all that could be done was done and am comforted knowing that she is no longer in pain. Rip little sweet himi mouse...

Oh no I'm so sorry. :tears2:

You did all you could for her.
Run free over the bridge gorgeous girl. :pink iris:

we're so sorry you lost Snow. We know how you feel. When our kids were young, we had Feivel, our pocket mouse. He used to ride around on your shoulder and if you had a pocket teeshirt, he would climb in and go to sleep. The hardest part with having mice is their relatively short life span. Feel good knowing that you truly loved your little mousey and gave her a good home. Run free at the bridge little one.
