I think I agree with Fran, but on a deeper level. I believe meat is meat. Dog, Rat, Cat (all animals I've had as pets, so would NEVER eat them). But a meat sourse is a meat sourse. But these little guys were meant to be pets. That'd be like going to the petstore and coming away with five hamsters, just to make a popcorn Hammy for your movie night...

That angers me... But don't get me wrong.....

I'm a meat eater. I love it. I want to sneak meat in my vegitarian friends' food all the time (like a pill in a cheeze ball) So they can see how awesome it is. But I would never eat my bun-buns, cats or dogs. Nor would I buy a pet quality animal and roast it. There's meat stock, and pet quality. .

Of course, I disgaree comepltely. Do you think a Rat is a *pet* ? In some countrys people eat them. As they do guinea pigs. I havn't a problem with people eating animals - the only thing I have a problem with is factory farming. Whether the animal was born for meat, fur/feather or a pet they are ALL "meat animals" every cow is a "meat animal" every pig is a "meat animal" every chicken, turkey and yes GOOSE is a "meat animal". No matter what it was bred to do (With the exception some breeds/types are favoured over others ;) ) they are now classed as "meat animals". Casper is my pet, I wouldn't dream of eating him but I wouldn't even eat an animal from tesco! This just shows how silly people can be saying its cruel and horrible to eat these geese, yet they go out and eat an animal from a food store. Hypocrtical, much?

Thepoint here is that people lied and misrepresented their intentions. They falsified a legal document. Bottom line the animals at the shelter are intented as pets and the contract says so. I think we got off track about animals as a food source.

If they wanted to have a goose sandwich ( :yuck ) they should have gone to the correct place. Not an animal shelter which clearly stated they were NOT to be used as food. Regardless of how you feel about Pets Vs Animals used for human consumption, that is wrong and disgusting. Companion animals (aka PETS) are at shelters. Where people dedicate their lives to saving them and praying they have a good life. It's NOT a place to pick up your dinner.

I eat meat, and I won't bea hypocrite and say no don't eat this animal and then go out and eat another. However, I feel what these people did is really wrong because it just ruins all the work these shelter employees do. I don't think the employees don't care, but rather they are probably fighting a fight they think they cannot win anymore. I think they are more discouraged than anything. It sucks. I just can't stand the people doing thisbecause they don't consider anyone but themselves. And if those geese were at the shelter, than those geese should have been part of those lucky few that didn't die on shelter watch :(

That is awful!

What gets me is the shelter! Why in the world would you not be able to get the geese back! I mean, I know that this is probably a small shelter, but for sure, if this happened at an APSCA, then the employees and volunteers/staff would definitley make sure to get the animals back.

Those poor geese. :(

That's soo sad.
