We just found our 8 year-old California breed bunny dragging his back legs behind him. He hasn't been dropped or experienced any trauma whatsoever and we've felt his hindquarters for any signs of a tumor. We do realize that of course we wouldn't be able to see that w/o an x-ray.

He does not have a head tilt but could it be a parasitic infection? If so, does treatment work or do the parasites just come back? Will he regain the use of his legs?

There are honestly 100 different things it could be, he needs to see a vet asap.
Bunnys can ecperience trauma even when you think they haven't (this was the case in the last topic like yours) but there are many things that can cause similar issues.

Does he flinch or pull his back legs away if you pinch one of the back toes?

No, he doesn't flinch at all. He's eating, drinking, pooping (softer than usual) and peeing (color is deep yellow). He is dragging himself around and grooming as best he can.

I have been researching more...can it be kidney or renal failure or a potassium deficiency? He gets a variety of greens and carrots almost every single day...

A parasite like e-cuniculi would notcome on that suddenly but would develop usually over time. Did your rabbit experience any other symptoms whatsoever before you found him paralyzed?

He should be confined to a small area until he can be diagnosed. Rabbits can injure their spines even by something as simple as being startled. He does need to see a vet immediatedly for xrays, proper diagnosis and pain medication.

Is he still eating and drinking?
Spinal trauma sometimes resolves over time so be hopeful....

I missed your last post. Very unlikely a symptom of renal failure,,

Don't let him drag himself around until he is diagnosed ..could cause more damage

Thank you, that's a good point about not letting him drag himself around. He did not shown any symptoms whatsoever before today. He is in good spirits but I am so worried that he may be in great pain. We will take him to a vet tomorrow.
