Papaya tablet oxbow question

Hi Friends,

I know there is debate on whether the papaya tablets work but is there any chance they can be harmful? I picked up some of them for Sophie to try because she still hasn't finished her moult and I'm going away for a few days soon so I won't be able to brush her. She's scared of other people so her caregiver won't be able to brush either.

The ingredients are: cellulose,maltodextrin,papaya fruit powder,pineapple fruit powder,bromelain,natural flavour,stearic acid,papain,lo Han fruit concentrate.

They aren't harmful we give them to ours and some angora breeders swear by them

They aren't harmful, but arne't really helpful either.
If she will eat them, it can be a good treat to make sure she is eating.

My highly touted vet in these parts recommended it. I'm sure it helps a small bit, but the vet mostly wanted to make thegiving of the papaya tablet a morning ritual so thatif they accept it means their okay and if they turn it down something is wrong with them.

Ok thanks for everyone's comments. I gave Sophie half a tablet to try but she just sniffed it and licked her lips a lot. We'll see if its still there in the morning.

Papaya tablets are very good for rabbits! My rabbit food has papaya in it along with the treats I give them, I find it very helpful.

The papaya tablets actually have the enzymes (bromelain and papain) added to them so they're much more concentrated than just say giving a piece of papaya. If the enzymes truly are helpful, the tablets should be better for them than papaya would be anyway. I found with my bunnies it took them a few tries before they realized they like them. They're not particularly fragrant so they're hesitant to pick them up at first. My Watson is like that with most new foods. Once Cricket tries them a few times he's much more willing to eat them.

It says in the label to feed 1-2 tablets daily or as recommended by a veterinarian. I only put half a tablet in her bowl because they seemed pretty big. Should I give her a full tablet?....if she even eats the first half lol....she weighs 2.2 kg.
