Me and my mumare going to build a new hutch for Fluf & Pez we asked my grandad but he doesnt want to do it i've told him its like upgrading cars except in hutches but he doesnt understand snff snff lol. Anyway i was thinking a design like Buddy and Roxies except with levels and mum decided that was much more achievable but after our holiday and people saying theyre just rabbits they dont need a betterhutch shes decided no. Does anyone have any ideas for a nice roomy one pref not two stories or if the rampshave rails so she cant fall off that would be fine too as pep cant really control her rear end.

I'll reiterate what I said in Pennie's thread .. I advise sheds and playhouses. :D They just work soo well, and you can do whatever you want to the inside of them, add levels, attach a run, etc etc. :D

well i was looking at sheds but the cheapest shed here is 300ish and its metal so it would get far to hot in summer and to cold in winter and wooden playhouses are about $900min and thats just WAAAAy to expensive. I've planned a hutch thats 180cm so about 6ft by 140cm so 4.5ft excluding a bed room and i can get everything i need for roughly $70NZ which i thinks pretty darn cheap really.

Buddy and Roxie love their cage! It is pretty easy to make. One thing you have to make sure of is that they don't dig or else they will get out. One morning Buddy dug a hole and I found him hopping around outside! I would put chicken wire under the ground or line the ground with bricks. It is also important that it is sturdy and no predators can get in. I also have a slanted roof so that rain water goes down. It is a good thing to have a couple of locks on the door and also make sure that there are no gaps in the cage.

I actually just asked my dad today if we could make a second level! I just don't know how it would be sturdy enough though.... anyone have any ideas on that?

If you need any additional help with what I used or how to make it, just send me a PM!

I would thinkto support the extra weight what you'd need to do is put like an X of wood on the bottom gaps but thats if its quite a large and heavy level so it really depends on how big it is if it was like a corner level id think youd just drill it in to the wood, but im not exactly a skilled builder except for my awesome cricket bat i made it intermediate lol.

Thanks i might end up doing that i just have to work with mum on how its much better for the bunz and stuff

Good idea. I might have it so that two of the sides are in the corner and then I could have two posts coming down from the other two corners if that makes sense. I'm sure the buns would like a little covering under there to!

Where are PePe and Fluffbun staying right now?

Sounds confusing lol.

Theyre in their old hutch which is about 1.5mx1.5m with another hutch that attaches on my grandad made it and is getting a bit run down so its time to upgrade!

I can't believe the price of sheds/playhouses over there! That's crazy! Still, seems like the size of the hutch you plan on building will be plenty big enough! :)

Good luck with it, and I hope to see pics afterwards! :D

Monklover, if I were you putting in a second level, I'd screw/nail some wood batons to the existing walls on 3 sides, then screw the wooden shelf on top of the batons to rest/secure it on. Then you can always make some wooden pillars/supports in the middle if needed. I'm by no means a carpenter or skilled in this area, but that's how I'd attempt it. Good luck to you too!
