The following is an email I received today (myresponse is at the bottom). I've removed the organization'sname to prevent flaming.
I was very disappointed to hear that an organization would be doing this. . .

To: XXXXX. I am fromXXXXX in XXXXX,XX. We are a two year therapeutic program for men and womenrecovering from drug and alcohol addiction.
Every year we give the residents children opportunities to come to thefacility to visit their parents. This will be happening onSaturday, April 7th for our annual Kid's Easter. Every easterwe give the children animals related to that holiday. Twoyears ago it was chicks. Last year ducks. This yearwe would like to give them bunnies. The children reallyappreciate this from their parents.
We are a non profit organization, so I am attaching some informationregarding our program. Please feel free to contact me atXXX-XXX-XXXX, or by email at XXXX.
Thank you so much for your time.

Dear XXXX,
I admire your efforts to provide thechildren with a special Easter gift from their parents in recovery.
However, an animal requires immenseresponsibility and money. Vet bills can run into thehundred's of dollars, and rabbit cages are very expensive.Spaying and neutering costs can also be prohibitive.
Unfortunately, many of these childrenwill not have theresources to properly care for abunny. Experience has shown me that the novelty of the bunnywears off quickly and many of the bunnies are neglected.
For the above reasons, I don't believe rabbits are an appropriate Easter gift for children.
Please see this webpage with links to pamphlets containing more information . . .
