Hi all :) I've had my rabbit now called Oreo for about 4 months now he is around 7 months old. He is a house rabbit & and he is lovely, always running about, throwing things in the air, chewing things :/ lol. Very friendly always wanting attention rabbit. He has recently been neutered and went thru a phase of being very grumpy and snappy.. But then who wouldn't lol. The only problem we are having is toilet training him we have a litter tray in the corner of the room he has marked his territory in and he picks and chooses when he wants to use it, he sometimes does his business in it and sometimes by the side. We are desperate to get him toilet trained as putting new flooring down soon. Any advice would be great :) when he is in his cage he is fine as it drops thru to the bottom area and he has his picked corner it's when we let him out. Thank you :)

welcome!

it's better to have a solid-bottom cage, as ones where waste can drop through can hurt their feet (since they don't have pads like cats and dogs). rather than replacing the cage, you can put a resting board or something solid to cover part or all of the floor (cardboard would be a good cheap/free solution).

I recommend putting a litter box in his cage even though you have the drop-through floors, just for consistency's sake.

I assume it's pee that's the issue, since poops are hard, dry and easy to clean up (plus they make like 500 poops a day, so they can't get them all in there)? is he ONLY peeing right beside the litter box when he doesn't pee inside it? if not, the room may be too big to only have one litter box - increasing the number to 2-3 could help. if it is only right beside the box, is it close enough that it's possible he might be sitting in the box to pee, but has his butt sticking over the edge so that he ends up peeing on the floor? if so, try using a deeper litter box (an inexpensive storage bin from walmart or something that's like 6'' high works really well).

Hi and welcome to RO!

Has Oreo been neutered? Neutering can improve litter habits. By doing his business are we talking pooping or peeing? I consider a rabbit to be fully litter trained when they pee in the box.
What sort of litter box are you using? What sort of litter? Does he not have a box in his cage? If he can just go on the floor in his cage but is expected to use a box when he's outside, that might be confusing.

Yep it pee that's the problem. He doesn't have one in the cage as it can drop thru but I've been considering putting one in as to save confusion for rabbit. It's quite. Large deep litter tray which he does get in and out off no prob, the tray and litter was recommended by the pet store. He has been neutered yep about 5 weeks ago. I think it may be a case of persevering as he is using it. I've put towel down on the cage and he does cwtch up onto it so it a little more comfortable :)
