OMG! I am so glad that they didn't have babies because they are actually 6 months now! When I bred them I got the dates mixed up and I thought they were six months then! I feel so irresponsible! But then again I was only about 2 weeks off. Well I am glad they are older now for their first litter.

That site is a little off it seems. Yes, small breeds mature from 3-5 months but should not be bred till 6 months, medium breeds should not be bred till 8-9 monthseven though theymature around 6 months and larger breeds such as english and french lops, flemish, etc should not be bred till 10-12 months however they mature around 8-9 months. I saw a breeder breed a French Lop doe at 4 months old and she had babies at 5 months! Just because it CAN be done does not mean it should be. Each rabbit is diffrent but just because a holland lop doe wants to breed at 3 months old does not make it right, you control her not the other way around.

This is true. I looked and looked and couldn't find proper breeding ages, so I thought I'd at least share this bit of info in case anyone else was wondering.

I believe I asked Zin (Goingbacktocali) about the age before I breed. I feel like you all think I went into this irresponsibly but I'd like you to know that I have done alot of reasearch and I have help from people that you respect (like Zin and my 4-H leaders) helping me. Peopl edo make mistakes so please don't critzize me. I really like RO but it is hard not to have my feelings hurt when people make it sound like they don't approve of my decision that I have made with a great deal of consideration.

I am sorry if no one meant to sound like this but I am deeply hurt. I guess I sound silly but I care sooooo much for my rabbits that I would never do anything that I felt like I was not ready to do.

Anyways, I tried to rebreed them but niether Fintan or Nessa were intrested in each other. They both just sat next to each other..... Fintan took a little bit of intrest in Merin but only tried to hump once and it was on her head..... I am so confused becasue last time it didn't happen like this at all. I need some advice.....

Aly!:)

PS I am tring to find the tread where someone said that 6 months is good for breeding Calis....

EDIT: It wasn't Zin who told me it was BlueGaints. Oh and if it sounds like I am trying to blame any one, I am not, I just want right information:)

if they don't show interest in eachother then just keep trying everyday, sometimes they just arent in the mood lol

Totally took it the wrong way :?Not trying to make you feel bad but I do believe 6 months is wrong for a rabbit over 5 lbs, they are still "babies". Bigger breeds take more time to grow and fill in than smaller ones. A holland lop is normally all filled in by 6 months and they stop growing around the same time toohowever theykeep maturing till 1 year old. Holland lops adverage 2-4 lbs so they are quite a bit smaller than cals. so that means they take longer to do the same.

You cansearch for one thing and find 5 sites on it but it is very unlikely all, even 3 of the 5 will say the same thing. Same as if you ask people, they may all say a diffrent thing on the same subject.

Are the does housed near the buck? I have found some bucks will only breed if they live where they can touch them(through wire) and some will only breed if they have never smelled the doe or not smelled her in awhile. Are you bringing them to his cage or meeting in a neutral place? Many bucks will not breed if they are not in their cage/territory. They are to busy smelling and marking the new place to be interested in the doe.

Good luck!

I decided to wait to breed until Jan. because our plans changed and I won't be here during Christmas Holidays to take care of them! So I will tell you then!:)

Aly!:)
