Jen....I watch a lot of designer television channels and I really think you should paint the bottom half of the walls (where the molding is) a deep brown. It would really pull out the tile.

i, personally, havebeen put off of green paint since my entire hose is like, light green. it is my mom's FAVORITE color. her bedroom is light green, as is the kitchen, and part of the loft! lol

I agree. And paint the strip of moulding a complimentary color to the tile - and possibly get a lighter shade for the window to match and bring the cabinet coloring out.

I'd also have space for large built in drying racks, so the stuff that can't go in the tumbler could dry there, out of the way, instead of in the hallway, or spare room lol! I'd also have a huge walk-in pantry lol!
Sorry to keep hijacking your thread, but you also don't have outdoor washing lines there? Hmm, I pictured you living like the people on Coronation Street, hanging out your washing and gossiping with the ladies next door, then going to the pub for a pint or two :p.

I think the reason why we al have our washing stuff in the kitchen is because houses in the UK are alot smaller, so the majority of people aren't lucky enough to have a utility or laundry room. We have one, but only because the previous owners were weird, and got a small room built off the kitchen with a SHOWER in. So we ripped it out and put our washing machine in there. Before that it was in our kitchen. We used to have our fridge in the dining room too!

Oh...my....God!

I am SO tired today. I started at 10ish and painted solidly pretty much until 6.30 lol. I painted the woodwork with 3 coats of undercoat primer, to cover up the awful blue. THEN I glossed the woodwork with 2 coats- 3 coats on the door and the blue it STILL showing through! So it needs another coat tomorrow. The window looks so great now though- about a million times brighter with a white window ledge! I'd really love to paint the frame white too, but we can't do that- every frame in the house, and on all the other houses on our close are brown varnished, so it would just look odd lol. And the door and skirting boards are now white gloss too! :biggrin2:

Amy and Jessica- that strip of wood isn't moulding! It's a support for a gigantic silver (??!!) breakfast bar that used to be in there. We had them take it out when we moved in, because there would be no room for our fridge-freezer otherwise, and it took up pretty much half of the room!

You can't see it in the picture about as the fridge is in the way, but the support stops halfway round the back wall, so it wouldn't really work too well for a divider to paint a different colour!

Plus, brown is another problem colour for me. Our hallway, downstairs and up is painted a horrible brown colour- not sure why, but it's SOOOO dark in there. We have to have the hallway lights on all day otherwise you can't see anything!

Here's a picture of the hallway actually- starring me and Barney lol
Ok, so that's a rubbish picture, and Barney looks sooo mad lol, but you can see the colour? I HATE it! I'd love to paint it but it is just SUCH a big job...

Anyway, the colour of the walls. I went to paint a patch on the wall earlier, and it was BEIGE!! HORRIBLE DISGUSTING BEIEGE-Y BROWN!! :vomit:There was no way I could live with that on the walls, so I went back to the DIY shop and got a pot of Magnolia. Painted that on, and it looks ok, but it's matt, and looks really dusty. I'm not sure on the colour either lol. I think I'll end up back at the shop getting different paint tomorrow! I want a vinyl-silk one, that's a bit shinyish, to reflect more light. I want it as light and bright in that kitchen if we're going to be here another year!

I'm definitely really set on going with a really pale colour- like an off-white, or cream colour. Just need to find the right shade lol! I really like the shade that our living room or bedroom is, so I'm going to try and find that tomorrow. Here is our living room shade (taken when we just moved in, hence the mess!):
Now THAT is a bright room! :D

Soooo, back to the grindstone tomorrow- once I get the paint sorted I have to re-gloss the door, possibly the door frame too, and then emulsion the walls. Oooh fun! We had to have takeaway tonight, and even that was difficult since we couldn't get to the drawer with the kinves and forks in!

I'm soo looking forward to cooking in my nice new clean and bright kitchen :biggrin2:

By the time you get done with the kitchen, you'll be a real pro and ready to tackle that hallway! When we bought our house, it was done in really dark colors - dark, dark green and bugandy. The house doesn't have good daylight anyway, so it was dark, dark, dark. We had the entire interior repainted in an eggshell. So much better!

They usually have a small room in homes/apartments for the laundry. Some older homes have them in the kitchen but usually right together in a small area. Also, some people have them in their garage or basements.

It's just different cultures.

What I want to know is what is that white thing next to the upper cabinets in the left corner here...... Nosey aren't I? lol

Also, we don't always have garages! And the only person I've ever met with a basement is my Grandparents and there house was built in the 15th Century.

And I think its a fridge....

LOL!!!

It's my boiler! :biggrin2:

Annoying to have it in the kitchen though.... You don't notice it too much since it's in the corner but it takes up so much space! Painting between it and the units was a real nightmare- that's where my paintbrush taped to a wooden spoon came in handy lol.... :D
There's quite a few Victorian huge terraced houses in Bristol, and a lot of them have basements. In fact, I used to live in a basement flat of a Victorian house, a few mins away! It had been extended, but the living room had no window, only light was from the back door in the room. The kitchen also had no window, only from the front door (which was in the kitchen. The bedroon was the extension and had 2 massive windows lol, so was always bright and sunny, but the bathroom had no windows at all! Yeah, that was a dark flat lol...
I'm looking at the magnolia now it's dried this morning and thinking it's not all that bad. I might just go with it!

Aah yeah, if it's the object in the front of the picture it's the fridge. If it's the thing in the corner to the left of the window next to the units, that's the boiler! Phew!

Bo you arent nosey i was wondering the same thing too, lol. I watch those house hunting shows when they are international and it is neat to see how different construction is in different places.

I love the pic of you and Barney i just want to pet his nose , how cute.

Thanks Fran! :)

OMG I'M FINALLY FINISHED!!!!!! :pinkelepht:

I'm absolutely shattered. But I have glossy white woodwork, and 2 coats of emulsion on every patch of wall (and a good deal on me too lol). It's a sort of off-white, cream colour and I love it! It's proper kitchen stuff so stain, grease and steam resistant, and it has a 'mid-sheen' surface as opposed to matt, which I hate!!

Pictures are uploading now :D It's still a complete mess in there, but I've chucked out most of the rubbish, just need to put things back in their places, etc... That'll have to wait though, because we're going away tonight, so I have to shower and get ready to go pronto!

I have overdone it though- my glands in my throat have swollen up and my throat is really really sore- although it's not my tonsils this time. It just feels really dry and....bleugh. I keep retching if I open my mouth too wide! So no more working for me now this is done :p

Pictures! :)

View from the corner, by the washing machine:
View from the opposite corner, next to the black table shown above:
And the view from the corner by the sink!
All these pictures were taken without flash, and without the lights on. YOU CAN SEE WITHOUT THE LIGHTS ON!!!!!!!

I am SO happy it's done. I can't wait to get back in there and cook a really nice meal, being able to see what I'm cooking, and to wash the dishes at the sink without having to hold the plates up to the light to see if they're clean or not!

We need to change the light fitting in there for a better, more high-powered one, but my parents have a spare that they're going to give us :D

If I could I would paint the window frame and change/paint the tiles, but we can't. And this is just soooo much better! :biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2:

they do have paint out there, i believe , for painting on tile, if you were interested in painting them all one color? Dont know how hard or involved it is.

Yeah my Mum painted our bathroom tiles. I think its pretty easy. Took her a day. We had little tiles like yours, they were all green. She painted the bathroom blue and painted the tiles blue white and purple, it looked really nice!
