Old Wives Tails

AsI was writing in another blog I thought everyone has old wives tails passed on to them. I'd love to hear some other ones. Here are mine.

1. Always pay for a pet even if it's $1.00 bad luck if you don't

2. Never accept knives as a gift without giving money to the person who gave them to you.

3. First person toenter your on New Years Day must have light coloured eyes.

4. Do not spend money on New Years Day or you will spend money to freely throughout the year.

Thats all I can think of for now I'm sure I will think of more.

Hmm, my nan was very superstitious, so all mine are superstitions, and I can't remember more than one in full, lol, shame on me.

No shoes on the table, or you will die.

Here are some I've heard

Don't walk under a ladder

Don't Cross knifes

If you spill milk your supposed to sprinkle sugar in it

I will think of more my mam and espcially my Grandma are very superstitious.

Just thought of a couple more.

1. Eating the crust ends of a loaf of bread (that you slice) will bring you true romance.

2. Eating the crumbs of thebread you slice means you will have lots of money.

Always put money in a purse that you are giving someone for a gift as it is unlucky.

If you have a wart, get someone to buy it off you (ruba coin over the wart) and it will disappear

If you spill salt you are supposed to pick up some of what spilled and throw it over your shoulder.

Thats all i can think ofnow, but i think some are superstitions aswell :?

-Breaking a mirror gives you 7 years bad luck.

-Black cats are unlucky, especially if they walk in front of you . (Curses! Eve is black!)

-If the smoke from a fire is in your eyes, saying "I hate white rabbits" three times fast will make it change direction away from you.

-Killing a spider makes it rain (They told us this at Girl Scout Camp to keep us from killing all the mosquito eaters, LOL!)

Here's two my crazy college roommate believed:

-If you eat a banana after 8 pm, it will come back up your throat while you sleep and choke you.

-If you drink milk when you have a fever, it will curdle in your stomach and kill you.

I learned these because she freaked out when she saw me doing those. I'm still alive though!

I heard smoke follows beauty! My mom and grandma are both VERY superstitious.

Saying "watermelon" before you sneeze will stop it.

Itchy nose means you will get in a fight or kiss a fool.

Itchy right hand means you will get money.

Have a headache, eat an apple!

Having a coughing fit, put your arms up above your head. You'll stop coughing.

Cracking your knuckles will cause arthritis.

Never knit your boyfriend a sweater, you will break up before you finish it.

Don't pick up face down pennies, but face up ones are good luck.

Those are all I can think of right now.

If your right ear burns or itches someone is saying something bad about you: if it's your left one, then they are saying something nice (right for spite, left for love)

Left itchy hand means you're going to lose money, right one means you're going to come into money (left to lose, right to receive)
