offended by stomping

Archie thumps and grunts all the time! Sometimes I think its just him trying to annoy me.

Well, let me give more details ... to help narrow it down a bit.

Here's how and when it normally happens ...

For example ~ the other day ...

I was there at her pen, checked her feed & water, pet her a few times (she usually slowly "hops" or "walks" away from my hand, but not fast - I can still pet her) (she is getting better with me petting her, she does hold still sometimes), then I picked her up (she actually does ok once I have her in my arms against me, when I first reach in to get her she's a little resistant, but doens't scratch or bite or anything), hold her for a min or two (she just stays still in my arms), talk gently to her, put her back in the hutch (she stays still until I have her away from my body and almost all the way down on her feet then she gets anxious to get out of my hands, but doesn't scratch or bite or anything), then she sat there for a second or two then stomped. I went to put some hay in for my pony and goats (pony is within her sight from her hutch, goats are not within sight but are within sound) and she continued to stomp. I walked back over by her hutch and she still stomped a few more times. I went up to the house then.

She doesn't normall stomp as much as she did that day. Except for the first day or two that she was here and she was really nervous - she stomped every time I tried to pet her. But this was different - this was AFTER I handled her and put her back in the hutch and was going about my own business. :dunno

once in a while she stomps when I go to pet her, but not all the time, and not so much lately.

Actually, yesterday I got her out of her hutch, put her rabbit harness & leash on her, brought her up to the house and left her run around the house for a little bit. she never stomped once. She did act scared though - at first she just froze to the floor, then after a min or two of regaining her heart beats she decided to go snoop around and off she went. She didn't seem to mind me ... she'd just hop right past me if she wanted by. I don't recall her stomping one single time ... before, during, or after.



So I hope this explains her behavior a little better. When she does it. So now what do ya's think ??

Can you sit and maybe tempt her closer with treats? Let her be the one to go to you. I think giving her more choices, letting her trust you.

Sit on the floor with her on your lap and slowly release so that she is choosing to go. That way she can go when she wants.

Maybe she wanted you back focusing on her? My Connor does that if he wants me to focus on him.

She just doesn't know how to react. She doesn't know what love is? What it is to be cared for.

She is more than likely starting to adjust but still has moments where she is still confused.

I bet she has either never been in a house or was so long ago she doesn't know. Bunnies are so curious that is what makes them so special.

I think you have a bunny who has a huge amount of potential. A bunny who with the chance, love and care you will give her more than likely will flourish into a new bunny.

My Penny will often stomp at me when I put her down. For her it means "How dare you pick me up! I hate it and you should just pet me on the floor."

She loves the head and ear rubs but prefers her feet on the groundand she's not afraid to let me know it!


Or, she is still adjusting to the whole love and attention thing. She likes it and didn't want you to stop maybe. It doesn't sound as if she's had much of a history of being played with and loved so maybe she is just adjusting still.

I must go with Bo B Bunny - my bun Baxter after I had him for a few 2 months - once he was living inside my bedroom and I was trying to videotape him to post him on this site he became VERY upset and "thumped" for the first time and it "scared" me as he weighed all of 4 pounds at the time but the "noise" he made was LOUD..

I think in hindsight he didn't like his new setup - and was trying to tell me (which I changed) but it takes awhile (that I see with my bun) to learn how to "talk" to each other..

I just wanted to chime in and say that I have 2 English Lops and my buck can scare the bejezzus out of me when he thumps. Usually it will be when Im on the computer and ignoring him when he will all of a sudden start thumping and I will jump like 3 feet in the air. Hes got some huge honking feet and they shake the whole darn room. I think he does it just so he can see me jump...stinker.:surrender
