O/T Bringing kitty to vet

One of the kittens(can't help but call them that, even though they're a year old now) hasbeen limping off-and-on for a week.It's her right hind legthat seems to be bothering her: she's reluctant to run, jump, climb, orwrestle with mom and sister. We thought it might be a strain, but sinceit's lasted for this long, and with no improvement, I'll be takingingher to the vet this afternoon.

I wouldreally appreciate prayersand well wishes for Stephanie; she's normallya littlespitfire,but she's just been so subdued these past fewdays.On top of that, we're also in the middle of asnowstorm. I'mreally hoping the weather will clear enough for us to make it to thevet. Otherwise, we'll have to reschedule, and with me heading into thelast couple weeks of school, that's difficult to do.

White-out conditions...we're not going anywhere.

I had to reschedule Steph's appointment for Monday at 3pm.

The vet's office was just wonderful - They called, left a message athome, and then called me at work to see if I wanted to come in earlier.The receptionist was very concerned about us driving all the way outthere, said not to worry about the appointment. They would be there, ofcourse, but it would make her "feel better" if we stayed safe at home

I'm dissapointed that we're going to have to wait even longer. Iso appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers, my mommy-heart is justbreaking for my little one

Oh m.e. I am just seeing this. I hope stephanieis OK. Has there been any change in her condition? I know it's hard tohave to wait, but things could have been worse if you had tried to go,with the weather being as it was. It's almost as ifher leg goesout on her. She'll try running and then she stops and refuses to putany pressure on it. Same thing happens when she tries to scale theshelves in my room (designed for the cats to climb on).

To my eye at least, it appears to be aproblem with her hip. I would expect somethinglike this in our 16 year old, not a young and otherwisecompletelyhealthy cat.

She's been letting us carry her, andnormaly she hates to be held. That's definitely a sign somethingis very off.

I will be sendiny you all the prayers in myheart. There's nothing worse that seeing your babies hurt, and notknowing what to do....

My bunny Buster had done something to his leg in the summer, and fromtime to time after he does his BUNNY 500, he limps around. The vetreally doesn't know what to do with the little guy, as he's usuallyalways fine otherwise. So when he's limping around we just do painmanagement for him, and put him in his cage to rest...

It took the vet less than five minutes to determine two things:

First, we have fleas. The news came as atotal shock, though now I can see the wisdom of year-round fleatreatment. We stopped the cats' Frontline back in October, but we thinkthey arrived on Thanksgiving with our uncle's scruffy dog. Won-der-ful.Honestly, we haven’t noticed any excessive itching or flea dirt,so who knows how long an infestation would have gone on undetected. NowI just need to figure out the best plan of action that will eradicatethe little buggers. In the words of Bugs Bunny:

Second, Stephanie has a 'luxatingpatella'. Her knee cap, which should rest in the groove of the femurjoint, instead floats in and out of that groove. When she runs orjumps, her knee cap dislocates, and when she's stretching her legrepeatedly, she's trying to pop it back into place. A luxating patellais not entirely uncommon (it’s often found in small dogs); she'll getan anti-inflammatory for the next few days, and we'll be giving her adaily dose of cosequin as a joint supplement.

There is a possibility that in thefuture she'll need surgery. Her knee is at risk for either arthritis oran excessive calcium build-up, and since she's such a young cat,surgery will prevent any such debilitating side-effect. But we'reholding that option out unless it appears she's getting worse.

I think I'm more upset about the fleasthan about her knee . At least we know what's wrong with my poor babygirl, and now, I think I'm going to go give her some extra lovin'…

im very glad to hear that you know the problemnow. i know half the worry is not knowing the problem. she lookslikesuch a sweetheart! we had a flea scare a few months agoalso and we were also very shocked! we had no idea our dog, daisy hadfleas so we had to do all 3 of our indoor cats and our 3 dogs and weeven did the 2 buns.
