Ive had Gracie for a little over 24 hours now and she will not eat. I have offered hay, pellets, red leaf lettuce, apples, and a piece of banana (she did gobble the banana down last night). Should I be worried or is this normal when coming to a new place? Any suggestions on how to get her to eat?

I think this is normal... Keep an eye on her, and tomorrow or the next day, if she eats nothing, then you should be concerned. She might just need time to adjust; i'm sure she'll be fine! :)

Are you offering the same kind of pellets she had at the shelter? As long as she is eating something and still pooping I think you are still in the realm of normal for now.

Yes, the shelter sent me with a 30 day supply of food for her. I was going to give her the pellets they gave me for the first few days and then slowly switch her over to the pellets i use. She is still pooping normally although I did find some cecals this morning. But I think thats because she is a overweight and couldnt eat them all

Once Gracie starts eating again & settles in more, you might want to add red clover flowers to her diet. Another topic asked about them & I was reminded that they suppress the appetite. In early summer Honey was dropping a few ounces & I wasn't sure why, until I read that about the flowers & stopped giving any to her. I also dried some & am saving them, in case I need them during the winter.

Very likely its the stress of a new home and all, but if she continues not eating, maybe its something to check into. Have you tried papaya? Ours have never refused that~just a thought

My kids love pineapple, I give them the fresh when they are shedding and as an occasional treat.

Lavender and chamomile also helps them settle in because it helps them relax. I give it to my kids when I get new ones and if they aren't feeling well so they get good sleep. You can use dried or fresh. I have a "tea" that is made for humans that is just the dried flowers that I add to their dish. Oxbow also sells a soothing mix with some pellets (snack sized bag).

Thanks brandy. Can I get the soothing pellets at the pet store? I have a feed and seed store right around the corner and they sell dried herbs and stuff so i'll check there tomorrow for some lavender

"Thanks christina! i guess im just a little paranoid after losing Olivia"

No problem, I would be paranoid too! Hope all goes well!! :)

It is not uncommon for rabbits to not eat or drink anything for the first couple of days in a new home. If they have not eaten anything within 3 days then I get worried and start to offer all sorts of treats.
