My 3 y.o Brittania Petite was acting completely normal yesterday, going nuts for a cookie, eating, drinking, running, jumping, getting into trouble.
Today, she hardly left her cage when she usually can't wait to get out, I leave her cage open so she can roam all day and only close it when I leave the house or go to bed.
When she did leave after being in there for hours, she just laid down, and didn't move. Occasionally she'd walk to a new spot and just stay there. She'll drink every once in a while, but won't eat.
I don't think she's too hot because my a/c has been on at an even temp all day, like it is everyday.
I give her fresh food, water and hay, every other day I'll give her lettuce and we'll share an apple together. Nothing in her diet has changed. I clean her cage every other day with aspen bedding.
My dad gives her, and my other 2 pets, a rat and a gerbil, a cookie, and yesterday, just like every other time she gets excited, starts running when she hears the cookies shake and jumping on my bed to get closer to his hand, but today she had absolutely no reaction to them.
She pooped, but hasn't peed. Hasn't had any medical problems in the past, I just don't know why she's acting this way.
Any suggestions?

Is she acting uncomfortable? Shuffling around a bit or pressing her tummy to the floor?

Or any sign of dribbling? Wet butt?

If she isn't peeing and she's drinking a lot, I'd get her into the vet right away, she might have a urinary tract infection or another issue like that.

Or she could be in pain from something else, but you can't really give her pain meds or much else until you rule out a UT issue.

PS: You can give her simethicone gas meds and tummy massages. A good sign that it is gas is if she likes the massage -- after getting over the initial 'Hay lady, what do you think you're doing!?' thing.

She's not drinking a lot, just when she heads back in her cage and sees that it's there then she'll take a few laps. No sign of dribbling or wet butt, I felt all around her body to see if I could feel anything but I found nothing.

I massaged her belly for as long as she let me, she seemed to be content with it, then just hopped off to go lay down again. I did notice she was molted more than yesterday so she may have some blockage. Her back legs seemed thinner, but that could be from the fur loss. Thank you for your help, I'll update if anything changes.

How is she this morning? If she's still acting the same, I'd have a vet check her out. I keep baby gas meds (simethicone) on hand and try that first if one of my buns is acting off but doesn't have any noticeable symptoms. I also give canned pumpkin, which 4/5 of my buns think is a treat, for the water and fiber. Gas is common with one of my guys when he is going through a heavy shed. However, if your bun is still uncomfortable after a full night, it's a good idea to have a professional take a look at her.

I opened her cage at 8 am, she finally took a drink and came out around noon time just to go in a corner to lie down, she has only moved to switch positions. She seemed to be walking fine. She still hasn't eaten and won't touch an apple, parsley or lettuce. I've found a vet nearby that specializes in rabbits for a fair price. Thank you all for your help and advice. She's a trooper, I know she'll get through this just fine.

She's very sweet (I assume that is her in your Avitar).

What time is your appointment.

Prayers :pray:and good wishes for Dust.

Susan:)

I don't want to scare you but that is quite a long time to wait. Bunnies go down hill very fast.

I've had to rush mine to Vets at different times for for tratment. If I were you I would be asking your Dad to take you and Dust very soon.

I've tried to make an appointment with several places, but they're all only available for Saturday, but with the way she's going, I was told, if I wait, she may not make it until Saturday. I don't know what to do. :(

Is there an emergency Vet in your area at all? Some of the vets thst told you no should be able to tell you. You just go to the emergency vet without an appointment. My vet has told me that if I ever experience Spike not eating for 12 hours or more, he needs to come in ASAP and if they are not open, he should go to emerg. I'd call around and ask for an emergency vet. They may be expensive, though.

Good luck, I hope Brittania is okay. Keep trying to coax her to eat and drink. Sometimes, if Spike gets that way, I bug him with lettuce and hay so much he grabs and eats it out of anger to spite me. The belly massages are good, too. Just be gentle with their little internal organs. Very gentle massage.

There are no emergency vets near me, though I did manage to give her some simethicone, and after a few belly massages on the couch she appears to be better. She's moving more, more alert and I caught her eating pellets and hay. She's drinking more, she peed and pooped, everything seems normal. I am still going to take her to the vet. they were booked for tomorrow but they said to keep calling to see if someone cancels then they can see her. I thank you all so so so much for your support and advice, it means so much. I really can't thank you enough.

That is so good she is eating and drinking a bit! Glad you got the medicine into her. Just keep an eye on her and definitely bring her in when you can. So good to hear she is doing better though! It is a horrible feeling when our buns aren't feeling well and we can't seem to do anything about it.

A molt will slow the gut down and cause gas. Lots of fluids, massages and mild exercise are definitely the best bet.

Plain canned pumpkin is a great wet fiber great for molting bunnies especially. All molting bunnies here get pumpkin.

But also as noted, gas attacks usually pass fairly quickly and other ailments can cause the same symptoms, so always best to be cautious.

Sounds like Dust is in good hands. Let us know how the appointment goes!
