Folks - the ideas are coming faster than we can implement them - but I want you to know that I ...and someone else (soon to be discussed) are listening!

What about a 4-H area for people involved in 4-H (both rabbit and not rabbit projects) to talk about 4-H stuff. Even though it does vary from region to region, it is fun to see what other clubs are doing.

i have to agree with this. an area for 4-h'ers to talk would be great. i was in 4-h for 5 years and i know that others do/did 4-h.

it would be a nice place to talk about showmanship, and such!

Thanks to everyone for their great ideas...keep them coming.

I'm writing them down and trying to organize them into various categories. The order we get to work on them will probably be based upon how easy/hard they are to do. For instance - we want to build a library with information on each breed ARBA has recognized. That will take a LOT of time versus starting a thread on youth breeding or 4H topics.

So if you see some things started before something you might have suggested...please feel free to ask what's up. It could be we're working on an idea behind the scenes.

I would love to see pictures of the colours of rabbits. Like a picture of a tort Holland lop, and a description that says it is a tort, including other breeds that have that colour would work too. Or maybe a description or the colour, then several photos of different breeds of that colour. Maybe even some pics of that colour in young kits so people can get a good idea of what colours they have. The genetics of the colour would also be neat for those who are interested.

I have a coat color link on my webpage nockrabbits.com

It lists the varieties, genotypes and has photos.

FFA as well as 4H might want to get involved...I don't know if we have many FFA members on the boards, though.

I'm in the rabbitry area most often for the baby pictures. :D

Do we have a "before you breed your bunnies" or a "breeding bunnies responsibly" type sticky thread anywhere? I get the impression that this site favors responsible breeding, and many of the websites I'm on that have breeders of other species has a pinned thread about things to consider before venturing into breeding. Examples of content might be: considerations before breeding (ie. realistic portrayal of the time/money/effort), supplies you'll need, setting responsible goals, sourcing quality stock, troubleshooting, humane culling, consequences of irresponsible breeding, etc. I realize it's a massive undertaking because I've written these for a few species myself, and may not be feasible, but I figured I'd put the idea out there. Forgive me if this info is already pinned somewhere, I'm not in the breeding section much.

I have worked on something like that and I need to really get it finished and posted. Thanks for the reminder.

I dont have time to scroll through everyones posts so forgive me if this has been posted:

I think we really need a color identification chart.

Maybe for the people showing-we can have some kind of pose chart(for different breeds or however it works)

Definitions of certain words.

Breed identification chart-by family Like the Lop family--or anything like that.

What to look for in a show/4-h rabbit--some people may just be learning and need more information..

Instead of having people post- "Who's going to the **** Show?"
We should have something that everytime there is a new show around, it is updated--like those who are going just post the name of the show, where, when--all that..(i dont know how well that would work out though)..Or even a show calendar-instead of using the site's calendar.

again, sorry if I am repeating anyone.

I would like to see a list of common health concerns and breeder treatments for them. Sometimes what we talk about in the Infirmary isn't going to help a breeder. I know, though, that we can learn from each other on how to take care of our rabbits' health concerns!

I would really like to see some info on how to take care of pregnant does, what to do if the delivery doesn't go well, how to know if the delivery isn't going well, and things to look for to make sure mom and the babies are doing well (mastitis, etc).

I agree with Claire
the Infirmary mods could benefit in learning medical treatment methods for rabbits of forum members who cannot or won't go to a vet for whatever reason or cannot go to a vet for a few days

Ialso tend to go blank when we have issues on pregnant does in the Infirmary and am interested in learning more about the birthing process and caring for moms and kits.

Ialso don"t know colors of rabbits and although I know a lot of medicalinfo often cannot namethe correct color for new shelter rabbit

Iwould love to have pics of rabbits with the names of colors identifying them

apologies if im repeating what others have said but i enjoy following the litters as they grow.

personally, a good picture of a rabbit showing what makes it that particular type would be useful and interesting. for example what makes my rexes otters:)

I don't know if this was said (didn't read everything) but something that give what certain things mean? Like "weaning" and "legs" (I think that's how it's spelled lol) and "REW" or "BEW" etc. There are terms used when I read threads and I don't understand sometimes. :) Just a suggestion!
