Noempie files continue

[Noempie]

When I got baby Noempie she was only 4 weeks old. I continued to give her the milk formula on which she was raised, but she slowly started to refuse to drink milk.

Now, don't get me wrong. She doesn't have a eating problem. She has a "problem" to stop eating . She get's twice a day a huge bowl with the following mixture in:

1. lucern (alfalfa)
2. Grass
3. sweet basil
4. thyme
5. parsley
6. carrot
7. green beans
8. Bunny pellets

The carrots and green beans she ignores until there is nothing left to eat, as well as the bunny pellets.

I wanted to use apple as a treat for correctly using her litter box, but she doesn't seem to like apple as well. But give her lucern or parsley and she will love you for ever! She is still a bit confused as to where to poo, but the peeing is in her litter box :biggrin:

I want to feed her carrot tops as well, but it is soooo difficult to find a store that don't remove the carrot tops. Luckily lucern is easy available and I found at my local plant nursery seeds, which is growing rapidly in my garden.



Any other ideas what to feed a fast growing Noempie ???

Looks like you got everything covered with Noempie's diet. And yes, bunnies at that age need to eat constantly. You are seeing the growing spurt they do at that age. It's amazing how fast they grow.

Regarding the litterbox, you have her peeing in it already? I'm jealous. Noempie definitely needs a treat for being such a big girl at her age.

Absolutely amazing that you got this sweet bunny this far when she was only 4 weeks old. My hats off to you! Keep doing what you are doing!

Once she's full-grown her appetite will be less. This is fortunate, as she'd become a heavy balloon.

She is a very good girl when it comes to peeing. But unfortunately she still poo everywhere, I noticed that she like to do it on material (the carpets, clothing, and on me). But not to worry, nothing a broom can't fix and all the poo go in the garden. It's amazing what that poo deliver, my garden have never looked this great before!
The name Noempie is actually a name of a pre-school which my husband attended when he was still a baby. They even had a school song, which he sings to her every day .(unfortunately it's in Afrikaans) I hope my husband don't read this, he will kill me for telling people that he also likes bunnies

Finding out too what bunny poo will do for a garden. Does wonders. We have a small compost started with the hopes of a bountiful flower and vegetable garden this coming Spring. Should be interesting. We will be rebuilding the garden area and the bunny run area this spring. Making it larger for the boys and the garden larger for the boys and ourselves. Love those jersey tomatoes.

One thing you will need to do is when she gets to six months she'll need to be transitioned away from alfalfa to regular hay. The alfalfa is great for growing buns but is too high in protein and calcium for one that is no longer growing.

I have actually been looking for hay, but this seem to be mission impossible.
I was thinking to give her carrot tops (which is also difficult to find, seeing that all the veg shops clean carrots before being sold), and also beetroot leaves.
Will this be fine for her?
Luckily it is not difficult to get her fresh herbs daily, and she just loves it to bits.

It doesn't have to be timothy hay, just not alfalfa. So look for orchard hay, wheat hay, or oats hay.

Depending on the store, if you asked them to save you some carrot tops, they might be willing to. One source I have says yes to beet greens but another one says feed with caution. It's aggravating when 'experts' can't agree. But if she's getting lots of herbs, that should be sufficient. What herbs, btw?

Her herb list at this stage is: Basil, thyme, marjorim, parsley and also rosemary (although she is not that into rosemary) I also include some fresh kikuyu grass that she LOVES!

I think they're all fine except the rosemary. When I did an online search for rabbit rosemary, the results said that it was ok in limited quantities but that rabbits didn't really like it. So I'd just leave it out.
