Hello people,Well yesterday I started shoppingfor my rabbit soon to come, although when I will find that right one Ihave yet to know! LOL So I was walking through West Edmonton Mall(YAY!) last night and I walked into London Drugs and all of the suddenwhat did I see on sale...NIC cubes...well sort of. They were the LondonDrugs brand but for 8 pieces I could pay 19.99 and then get a wholenother set of pieces (8) for free, so of course I bought two and gotanother two free...well needless to say thats alot of pieces so I knowI am taking two back to get my money back but with the other pieces Ispent alot of the night trying to pice them togather. The problem isthaht the connecting pieces are horrible and they don't hold the cagetogether well at all...I scotch taped some pieces and they seem verysturdy after that...I'm just wondering if it is worth putting mucheffort into it or should I just go out and get one of the starter kits, even though the cage is way smaller than the one I made with the cubepieces. Or is there a place that I can get some really awesome attchingpieces? Like Canadian tire or Home Depot? Sorry to those people whohave no idea what places I am talking about. I was just hoping to get acage nice and cheap and be able to spend the extra money on my rabbitand some great toys. Would it be better to invest in a name brand, andsturdy cage?~Erin~

They do not hold the cage together as far as Iknow. Most people just put those as spacers and to make the cornerssturdy and then use Zip Ties to firmly attach it.

This is a cage from one of our members:

Those white things you see over the black bars are zip ties.

Well that doesn't make me feel so bad forgrabbing those cubes without really thinking! So where can I get thosezip ties in canada.

You can get that at places like Home Depot, Rona, I believe. I don't have NIC cages so I don't really know.

Here's a good picture of what they look like:

You put those on (you'll need LOTS) and then clip the excess off.

Home Depot hasa package of 1008" Nylon Cable Ties (Zip Ties) available for $2.95 USD. So It's cheap.

Good Job MBB, with all the info and advice. Zip ties can also be found at Dollar Stores.

Erin, cages can cost $60.00 to$100.00 for a largest one. I just bought a newcage, just in case, something came our way. :)

The Humane Society sells second hand andused cages, but they don't have anylarge ones rightnow. They usually charge $25 for theextra large size. They dohave an overflow of rabbits there needing homes.:( Check their website.

There are alot of rabbits available in town. The petshops arehaving sales. At PJ's Pets (by LondonDrugs)at WEM were selling bunnies for $5.00 if youbuy a starter cage. :X Theyeven have fixed bunnies for $150.00 that look soyoung that you can't tell if they are bucks or does. :X

If you don't get a bunny right away, you could waitforthe rabbit show in November.I'm sure there will be some breedersthere who are selling some of their stock.

Rainbows! :)

I am working on making a cage right now, and Igot the zip ties from Home Depot. I am using the connectorstoo, as mine are pretty good. I have the Shopko brand, soit's probably different from yours. Of course, they don'tgive you enough connectors for making a cage, just for making theshelves in the picture on the box. Silly people! Why would I store clothes when I can store rabbits?:p

If each box contains 8 grids, then don't take any back yet.The picture MBB posted is of a cage that is 2 grids wide, 2 long, 2high. So that's four for each side and the roof= 20grids. And that is a fairly small cage. I recognizeit, and those are Amy's just-weaned baby holland lops in it.They make the cage look bigger than it really is. It wouldprobably be okay for one dwarf rabbit. If you wanta bigger rabbit, or two rabbits, do at least 2 wide, 3 long, 2 high, unless it's a really big (10 lbs plus) rabbit and then go threehigh. It needs to be able to stand up all the way.2x3x2 is about the same as my XL dog crate that I think is the perfectsize for my dutch. The cage I am making is 2x4x2 with a shelfthat is one grid wide running along two sides in an L shape. It is for two dwarf hotots.

Never get a bunny from PJ's Pets. The other petstores are not as bad but PJ's Pets is horrible. My vet told me theystarve there animals during the day so they come up to the front oftheir enclosures when the store is open to see the people.

On top of that, they often have animals that are way to young to be away from there mom's in there.
