The sad thing is, they're not the only shelter that's experiencing this problem.

I wish more people would adopt, no bunny deserves to languish in a shelter :(

Yep

I totally Agree M.E. BUT! on the same token IF they werenot so quick to rushintosergury with papered animalsthey would have a better turn over rate .I have called MANY! Shelters foradoptable non altered rabbitsfor My Grandaughter to showand was blatenly told :

"" too bad WE always AlterRabbits If you want to showRabbits WE suggest you go to abreeder!""

Now Im not sure howothers will take that but ittotally P.O"D ME Rather thanadopt out a fully papered unalteredRabbit they suggest going toa Breeder creating even moreRabbits, where doesthis type of mentality come from ???????

Because if they adopt out an un-altered rabbit, then people are likely to go and breed them. And in all my time at theshelter I have never seen a rabbit with papers. Purebred or notis only a guess, and we're not going to let someone adopt an unalteredrabbit without knowing it's history, etc. That's not responsiblebreeding. And that only creates more rabbits for the shelters todeal with.

Oh, this is insane!! I just can'tstand it. People really need to adopt more. I can'teven believe I'm saying this, but I have empty cages and may have totake a trip down there. I must be nuts!!

See, this is my problem too. I'm going to talk to Shawn aboutit tonight. He's in Miami right now, soooo...he reallywouldn't even know......we'll see. Anyway, I know I'mnuts. When I was in college, we had this poster that said"I'm slowly going sane in an insane world." It was great.

Jen

Sometimes the only sane response to an insane world is insanity.

That is a cute saying.. very true.. Man I'mdreading bring this up to DH.. he's not gonna like this one bit.. buthey, at least these buns are *achem* cheaper than that puppy we weretalking about getting.. and a whole lot safer to stick with buns in ahousehold of buns.. :D

I just got permission from my landlord(sister)to temporarily house one RABBIT for anyone going to theboathouse party that might want to adopt from our humane society. Iwould need a check for the adoption fee. Of coure, the humane societymight want an application from the permanent adoptors, but we can jumpthat bridge when we come to it.

They just don't want people breeding them oncethey have left the shelter thats all.Iknow itdoesn't make sense, but i can kinda see their point. If they adopt outnon altered bunnies, you never know who get their hands on them, or letthem breed. I bet those buns they altered were very nice looking too.:( but I think they were right about going to a breeder. At least theydidn't tell you you shouldnt breed at all. lol

How on earth does it make sense for a shelter or rescue to adopt outunaltered animals?? Not to mention that in many states theycan't by LAW. Why should they take your word you'll beresponsible with the rabbits? They can't take that risk, plain and simple.

Any breeder who takes animals they bredto a shelter IS a dumper and deserves to be branded as such.

This saddens me terribly :(. I've beento the Humane Society everyday for almost two weeks (looking for mymissing cat). A new bunny arrives everyday. Today, the sweetest new bunny was there. An owner moved and left thepoor thing in their apartment. The landlord said they movedthree weeks ago. That poor bunny was all alone for threeweeks! So sad. I wish I could keep themall! :(
