So, I've had my girl Mocha for about 5 months now, She is almost 7 months and I had her spayed at 6 months, almost 3 weeks ago. The surgery was successful and she has recovered wonderfully. The only issue is her behavior has changed drastically.

When I first got her, after she warmed up to me, she would run around me making a low humming noise. She would constantly lick me and anything with my scent on it and I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but my female rabbit would often mount my arm. That's when I started looking into her gender and it was confirmed she was a girl, and I got her spayed as soon as she was 6 months.

So now it's been a couple weeks and all those behaviors have changed. She doesn't let me pick her up at all to put her in my lap, she usually liked to be stroked in my lap. If she licks me, it's only a little bit, and I knew the circling and mounting issue would go away.

I'm just wondering if she stopped doing those things because she's spayed and doesn't see me as a mate anymore and is there any way to make my lovable rabbit come back. Another thing she does is run from me and flick her head, I'll follow her and she runs and flicks her head more.

My girl was just spayed this week and hasn't fully recovered yet. I'm wondering though if you will have to regain her trust? The spaying process can be painful and probably confusing for them. I have been giving Becky a little bunny massage every time I bring her out for her medicine and that seems to help. Being confined during healing time may have also made her mad? Good luck.

unfortunately the humming and circling and licking is a "mating dance" - so more than likely it has gone away since she is no longer hormonal. perhaps she doesnt like being picked up because her tummy still hurts?

The running and head flicking...sounds like what our kids do when they want to play!
Oliver will run away flicking his head and we're supposed to come chase him and play!
She sounds like she is being cheeky!

Her behavior will be different..all he humming and mating behavior will go away.

Keep in mind too...your girl is headed towards her terrible teens!
This is the age where everything you do is wrong...as the name suggests much like a teenager! Most bunns snap out of it after a few weeks! It's all part of growing up!

:)

Totally agree with Danielle. The running away and head flicking sounds like an invite to play. The head flicking is just like a binky, so I think she's trying to get you to follow.

The mating behaviors will go away, but I think her affectionate side will come back (minus the humping and humming). She's probably going through a bit of teenage bunny angst at the moment.

The humming may return. Pixel would hum when she was happy and when she was excited to get a special treat. Skyler (5 years old) has recently started humming just a little bit. And, the licking may return too. It seems to me that rabbits have a "licky spot"; an area which when petted elicits a licking response from them. Skyler's is on his cheeks. Pixel's was on her back, toward her tail. I can't address the "picking her up" issue. None of my rabbits like being picked up.

Each of ours have been different. Once the hormonal behavior was gone and they got past the "teens" most came back to being a nice bunny. Didn't really notice any difference after spay except for the decrease in "courting behavior". May need to give it more time. Good luck.
