Hi my name is Sarah, I have just rescued a 1 year old Dwarf lop called Max. He is so good lovely nature except not quite got the hang of picking him up he struggles a bit but loves having a cuddle. Is it natural for them to lie on their back for ages? He seems very settled. He has been kept indoors well a lean to, in a hutch but i think he would love to be a house rabbit :) Any advise would be great, keep looking at the large cage but not sure if i should use a dog crate! Anyway hi everyone and I look forward to talking to you all xx

Cobgrats & Welcome to the best website ever... Can't wait for pictures..

Is he litter trained?? You can try that too.. My doe is and she's in our spare bedroom

Hi! Yes he is litter trained though i'me not sure why he chooses just to sit in his tray quite happy. I do need to learn how to pick him up so that he feels secure but we are working on it. Was a little worried about the smells in the house however at the moment he seems very clean.

Rabbits seem to be very clean pets, as clean as cats. The only messy part of owning Lily is that she's a picky hay eater and will pull out and scatter the pieces she doesn't want to eat. LOL From my research I've noticed that rabbits are fairly easily litter trained, that rabbits who aren't litter trainable usually calm down once spayed/neutered, and that their poops do not smell.

Most rabbits do not enjoy being picked up but some can be trained to put up with it. Lily does not like to be picked up but will crawl into my lap for treats. I think that it is important to let your pet be handled at their comfort level. For Lily that means I sit with her on the ground. Since her cage is on the floor she can hop in and out (into her playpen which attaches to the cage) at her leisure. If I have to pick her up I throw a treat into the carrier and she happily hops in.

As for laying on their backs, that's called a trance. Some rabbits trance easily. It's wonderful that your new boy will lay on his back in a trance for a long time. That will make nail clipping time very easy.

They are very cleaned pets but you need to clean out the litter box every other day or so. Also put he's hay in the litter box.

Welcome! I love lops :]. About the cage- I use an "nic" cage, that I built really really easily ( and for a lot less then buying a cage) There is A TON of info on this site about building a NIC cage.

Rabbits are really clean! Especially if they are fixed. Midas is kept in our kitchen and I never smell him.

Hope you enjoy the site, there is a lot of good info here!

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

I’ve listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

In your profile there is a place for location. There is no rule requiring you to list the city you live in, but if you can give a general region, country, state, what part of a state or country you live in is helpful. This will give others an idea and can offer more specific help if needed.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, How to put photo's in your posts.

This the best site on the web for bunnies and I look forward to hearing stories and looking at pictures of your rabbit.

The best way to pick up a bunny is using one hand and arm under the bun to provide support, use the other handon their back. Hold the bun like a football,American football.

He is adorable! The lying on his back thing is called "trancing"--bunnies kinda go to sleep/into a trance when they're put on their backs. Not all bunnies do it, but it's a huge help when you go to trim their nails. I don't know why they do it--perhaps it's like how opossums play dead.

At our Humane Society we recommend a large dog crate as a cage. You can put a shelf in there as a perch for them, and a litterbox below that. I don't cage my guys unless they get noisy or destructive--each pair has their own bedroom (we share a bedroom with Frida and Ben)! We let the pairs have free run of the rest of our apartment on alternate days too. They're usually quite good about litter habits, except for poop. Some bunnies are better than others, and a single, fixed bunny doesn't have anyone to compete with. I think most of the poops our guys leave around are because they're trying to claim the common areas as "their" territory because we alternate letting them out.

Today I purchased a large dog crate, tonight I have customised it LOL!! Max seems very happy here I must say I have 2 dogs who are very interested. However they are also very good but would never leave them, Max really don't care he just lets them sniff. I am very happy to have him but still not sure why sum1 would just give up on him .... not this girl he's here to stay!!! Thank you every1 for your welcome!

It most likely that had a child. And the child wanted it and now they didnt want nothing to do with it...
