AR--Wannabe Bunny Owner, Kat here. I live in NW Arkansas and recently visited an alpaca farm in Oklahoma that also had ANGORA RABBITS! I few in love with the cute little bunnies and their incredible wool and yarns. Now I'm reading everything I can find online about angoras (even learned that there are angora goats, heh). I have seen prices as low as $10 dollars and up to the stratosphere too. I have only seen 1 person in this area though and I am anxious to meet them. I would dearly love to have a pair of Satins as the sheen in their wool is incredible! If I can pick your brains I would be grateful, and if you know a close source for me, ditto.

Hi and Welcome to RO.

Angoras are awesome rabbits. There are 4 different breeds, English, French, Satin and Giant. There are differences in the breeds based on size, wool type and the amount of grooming they need. Some breeds are easier to find than others, but that can depend on where you live. Satins do have a nice sheen, but they do not produce much wool, so you would have to collect a lot or mix it with something else to get enough to make anything.

Welcome to the forum Kat! :welcome1

See if there are any Rabbit clubs or Rabbit shows in your area. There maybe some links or people who can find Angora breeders near you.

Thanks for that information, there does not appear to be anyone in the Ozarks area who has satins, though I located someone an hour away who is willing to talk to me since she learned I'm not from PETA. Maybe I'll find a satin later.

so far, I've found nothing, and the fair was 2 months ago, or I'd visit the agri-building as I love to see the chickens, ducks and rabbits.
Just one lady that I found online about an hour away.

I had to go about 1.5 hours to get Lillian my Giant Angora. The breeder wanted to meet first, then I had to go back and pick her up, so it was quite a bit of driving.
Due to the limited number of angora breeders, you will need to drive to get to one. You might be able to meet at a show if there is one coming up near you that they are going to.
Angoras are fun to have, but finding one can be a pain.

Thanks for the info, NW Arkansas is quite rural as are our neighbors: Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas. I suspect that I will have to travel. Do bunnies travel easily in cars? Do I need a cat crate? I do travel a couple times a year to Minneapolis, maybe I can find angoras there.

Most rabbits seems to travel fairly well, but it does depend on the rabbit. Some will act like it is nothing and be eating right after while others can take longer to recover. An outgoing rabbit will probably take a longer ride better. The change in environment can be more of an issue that you need to watch for.

If you are keeping the rabbit as a pet and not planing on showing, then a cat crate will work. Depending on the breed, a small or medium size will work. If you will be showing, then it would be better to invest in a show carrier so you just need to buy one type of carrier. One of these http://www.petmate.com/Products/Pet-Taxi-Traditional__21086.aspx in the 23" size would be good for a Satin, French or Giant, but the 19" would be better for an English.

Wow. I am actually going to be in Minneapolis for all of November. Is the area housing the rabbits similar to a local fair? I have no idea what a convention is about, aside from the classes advertised which I won't be able to attend, unfortunately. But it would be wonderful to be able to see the rabbits, and talk to breeders.

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

Many bunny's recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo. Many people also use Photobucket. You just copy the img file and paste it into the post.
