Hi, I just joined the forum. I am anew bunny owner of two baby bunnies, white with red/pinkeyes. I think they are both girls. We have namedthem Daisy and Miffy. My parents got them formykids, ages 5 and 8, for Easter. I am assuming they wereprobably 8-10 weeks old when we got them, they were very small and camefrom a pet store. Now they are probably 12-14 weeks or 3 - 31/2 months old?? They are eating great, using the litter mostof the time except for some stray poops at the bottom of thecage. They love being held and are very cuddly. Wealso have a dog and two cats who are very interested in the bunnies, but we are afraid they might hurt them. Will they stay thiscuddly as they get older? Can dogs and cats ever be trustedaround rabbits? Any advise for someone new to rabbits? :)

Welcome Rhondakaye,

Would first say make sure they're girls. We've had many, many people beunpleasantly surprised. Don't want that to happen to you.

I'd suggest you take a look at the post above in this forum called "ACheat Sheet for Rabbit Care". Check out the notes, and do look over thewebsites and book suggestions. You'll probably get quite a kick out ofthe one website link about Rabbit Language. I highly recommend it.

As to their being cuddly, when they go through puberty, things can geta bit hairy as they can become very territorial and dominating towardseach other. Their personalities usually go back once they'reneutered/spayed, but no guarantees.

Each rabbit has their own personality. Some are cuddly, other's like toconstantly play tag with you. The fact that you have yours so young, and they're so loving is a great start. Keep on doing what you'redoing. Handle them a lot and as you know, patience goes a long way. They respond very well to cheers and compliments; they hold grudges andregister fear when they're yelled at.

I hope you're enjoying their antics and their return of love to you.

:)

Thanks for the welcome. What would bethe best age at which to get them spayed, assuming that they are bothgirls. I am pretty sure I see a slit on both of them and nota circle, and the vet also thought they were both girls. Iwill definitely check out the information on the forum as I have beenresearching a lot already. Appreciate the advice!

At onset of puberty, which varies among breeds, but six months is not an unusual age to consider neutering buck or doe. Yours are certainlywithin the realm of reproduction age wise if they are a bit precocious and have been incorrectly sexed heretofore.

Careful and good luck.
