hello!
new here are looking for some help!!

i have a steel giant continental doe whos about 12 weeks old.
im thinking of breeding her with my hairdressers conti :biggrin2:, one she is big enough.

my HD's conti is a giant blue and he is about 18 months old.

will this work out ok once she is about 9 months old?

and would you know anything about genetics? what proportion whould turn out blue and steel? my conti has strains of agouti and yellow.

thanks alot

Do you know what is behind the Blue? You may not get any blues because generally, the agouti and steel pattern will be dominant over the blue (solid colored self). If you do get blues, they could be Blue Steels (blue with white flecking). Different and very pretty, but not "showable". If you are looking for pretty companion pets, that's what you'll get.

Depending on what colors he carries, you can get Steels, Agouti, Yellow, Blue Steels, Blue orBlack. If both parents carry a recessive white gene, you can get whites too.

Please let your girl mature before you breed her. Breeding her too early may stunt her growth and she won't reach her full size. (My Giant girls don't get bred until they are 9 months or over 15 lbs.)

ahh yes definatley, wil definatley let her mature first.

i wouldnt do ANYTHING that would harm her.
i really do love her too much :biggrin2:

the blue male is a tatooed show champ from Holland, but is now being kept as a pet.

would it be ok to let her breed next year then?

all these babies will be sold as pets :) not expecting anything champion.

I peeked at this thread and have absolutely nothing to add other than a question way off topic but...

xxxxxxxx

I thought it was orange or fawn. Lol. I am learning everyday :pLol I figured not literally but I really couldn't figure what was considered yellow. Lol. :pTy for the pic!

yep, i was looking on the net, and it says its quite a rare colour to find, and its only recently been accepted as a coat colour in the BRC.

The Yellow in Britain is called Fawn in the US. It's not a common color in Conti's but very popular in the Flemish Giant.

Love those EARS! So wide!

Many people retire does from breeding at about 4 years of age, at which time they would probably be becoming infertile as they have lived out their breeding lives.

Most of my Flemish does stop breeding between 3 1/2 and 4 years of age. But I've had a few girls that were willing to raise litters until they were 5.
