Well, her side says it was a bogus complaint filed by someone that had a grudge with her. Her "justification" on the messy cages: The 4-H kids cleaned the cages a few days before and missed a couple." Which doesn't fly, because those cages didn't go "just a few days."

Some have even said that they only showed the "bad" pictures and not any of the "good" ones. Sorry, but I don't care how many animals you have...they ALL should be take care of. Period. 200 animals in your care, 200 animals should have clean water, a clean place to live, etc. Not 190 of them taken care of and the hell with the other 10.

Any time something like this happens, people start yelling, "It's a conspiracy." Show me one case where every single animal was perfectly fine, THEN cry "foul play."

She did take care of ALL of them. Tell me one rabbitry that doesn't have a sick animal once in a while. They DO get sick and unfortunately how much you care for them while ill, they do die. I've read the case because at first I WAS upset with how the conditions where presented by the Rescue Group and the Government who works closely with this individual group (through grants). And yes, it was a rescue group with the help of the Federal Government who brought this woman to her knees and took all the rabbits she so much loved. Someone who LOVED rabbits and loved the fact that she was help children LOVE rabbits.

This is a "Meat Rabbit" case but will affect those who show and who raise pets because a Judge did set a precedent for ALL rabbits now considered livestock. If someone should say, for example, you were not taking care of them, because they were in a barn and might be hot because they feel rabbits can't survive in 84 degree weather, I'd be right there for you because you DO take very good care of your buns. You KNOW your rabbits.

It's just something that everyone who has rabbits should know. Pets, show and meat. The government has now grouped them all together. It's truly a shame.

I believe in rescue. I believe that rabbits are sometimes considered meat also. Sad fact, but it is true. But I also agree that it's up to the responsible OWNER to make the decisions on the animals that they so lovingly raise. Shame others don't see that. And NOT all rescue groups are like that.

I wasn't even talking about the ones that were sick or dead. I am talking about the horrendously filthy cages some were living in. I'm talking about the disgusting water crocks, which were empty, that obviously hadn't been cleaned in ages. So she was apparently not taking care of ALL of them. Some might have had clean cages, water bowls, and food available. Others, clearly, did not.

Rabbits are livestock. They always have been, and hope they always remain so. Horses are livestock (been arguing with anti-slaughter people on this issue for several months, since Obama lifted the "no slaughter" ban). You can call them meat rabbits. You can call them pets. You can call them show. But, for classification purposes, they are livestock.

Thankfully my barn is never 84. During the hottest part of the summer, it stays a comfortable 76. Which is the main reason I wouldn't let hubby rip it down to build a pole barn. Bank barns are wonderful! It stays cool in the summer, and warm in the winter.

Anyway, I can see where some might be upset about the heat. I know some people that their houses don't stay below that in the summer. But maybe a better idea would be to find a case where there was NO single act of neglect in all the other areas, and then present it. Or, even better, find vets and other professionals, and push to change the livestock rabbit laws.

Have to respectfully disagree. This woman was set up. They, this so-called animal rights rescue group knew her schedule because they were observing her for some time. I've read the legal document. And they would not let her submit any documentation through the entire ordeal. It was done real quick. They took all the rabbits and basically smeared her name. Something is not right here.

Now I want to know WHAT that rescue group did with her bunnies. They will not let her have them back even after she tried to show them what was going on. The judge would not hear it. And it just seems awful strange that one of the members of this rescue group had words with her about her breed months before the observations started. This member felt that raising "meat rabbits" was wrong. And she was singled out for an example.

And regarding the definition of neglect, well it's so large you can fit three elephants through it. I know that definitions can be changed to fit anyone's agenda.

I just don't believe this woman was given a fair and just trial. You can look at any rabbitry and photograph hay in a bowl, or lack of food, or water at any time of the day if you know the person's schedule. Gee, and it looked like those bunnies were pretty well fed because of their size. But again, you can pick and choose any one to make it look like there is an issue.

But again, to each their own. Not trying to argue with anyone. I just would like ALL of the facts to be presented. But the scary part is, this Judge set a in motion that these unqualified, unlicensed individuals can stand outside your rabbitry for weeks, observe and then come in and confiscate ALL your rabbits.

Yes, there are people that totally neglect animals. It's not just rabbits. My husband as found vacant homes with dogs barely breathing.

Any organization that has this power without question is trouble.

Attorneys and vets aren't doing anything about what's going on. They can't. Who licenses these people? That's right the State and the County. So do think they are going to risk their licenses? Nah.

It's lay people like us who need to stand up and be heard. But then again, can't do that either because of the Executive Order passed by the President who assumes all responsibility of our Natural Resources. And food is in that executive order.

Also those who stand up are now considered domestic terrorists for any cause and will be watched. Welcome to the Real World.

So any organization can come in, without any search warrant or even cause or reason and confiscate your livestock. Even your horses. Now that this judge made this ruling.

It is what it is. You guys better realize what is going on in the United States. Not anti-anything. Just want to see it handled fairly. That's all.
