New bun alert! 🐰🚨

Hello everyone! My name is Katie and I am new to this forum! I have a 9 month old Harlequin Mini Lop called Nala and a 5 year old Sheltie guinea pig called Blakey! I did have a gorgeous white fluffy guinea pig called Blizzy but he sadly passed away last year he was such an amazing pet and I miss him everyday.

Nala is my first bunny and oh boy has it been a learning curve! She’s basically a dog that we don’t have to walk! she’s so funny, silly, cute and sweet and we just love her bold personality. Definitely thinks she rules the roost and has my husband wrapped around her little paw!

We look forward to making many friends on here and getting some help with all things bunny!

Your guinea pig is really cute with that long fur! Just a caution, there are risks with allowing a rabbit and guinea pig to interact. You may not be aware, but each species can carry a disease that is harmful to the other species. For example, rabbits can be carriers of the Pasteurella bacteria without having or showing any symptoms. Guinea pigs are much more susceptible to this bacteria and it can be lethal to them.

It's also true that an inadvertent/accidental kick from a rabbit could cause serious harm to a piggie -- regardless of the size of the rabbit. We saw this happen with a forum member years back. She disregarded the advice here to keep her piggie away from her rabbit because "they got along so well." She frequently let them have playtime together... until one day, the rabbit just hopped up and happened to kick out its back legs. The piggie ended up with a few broken ribs and internal injuries!

Hello thank you for your advice it’s really appreciated.

This photo was the only time I felt comfortable with them trying out the new chew toy but Nala actually ‘growled’ at Blakey after this and they have been apart ever since. Blakey gets free reign when Nala is in her enclosure and visa versa.

Blakey lives in a hutch away from Nala too
