Well we have been wanting to get a friend for Gracie for a month or so now and today I cracked and bought home a little boy!I was watching Grace last night trying to play with the cats but the bunny/cat communications werent to great and they thought she was trying to attack them so I decided that I would have another look at trying to get her a friend a little quicker than I had first thought.

Piccies at the end.

Bringing him home was fine, he was a good traveler and when I bought him in he was bright and wanted to explore. Grace had a look at him through her bars but just ignored him and then I opened her door and she still ignored him but then came for a little sniff before bouncing off about her buisness

I knew it wasnt a good idea for her to get too close so I put him on the sofa and she was on the floor, she doesnt come on the sofa because she knows she isnt allowed; mainly because she pees on it. He was there for a while and she was sleeping in her favorite spot then suddenly out of nowhere she had lept onto the sofa grabbed the baby and pulled him under it. I could here the bangs and the sofa was jumping but I couldnt get to him. He ran out and I just scooped him up. On examination I realised that he had a huge wound...the size of a 2p/quatre on his rump and it was bleeding but not too badly. I cleaned it and found the peice of skin she had ripped off on the floor -- you could see right through to his muscle!!

I called the vet but they said I would have to take him to this emergancy vets and so I called them. They were really sulkey about treating him but eventually agreed at a cost of £97!!!!!! ($180) all because it is a saturday

I got in the first cab I could get rushed him to the vets and then sat in the empty waiting room for half an hour!!!! -- at £97 I would expect a fast service -- I took him in and the vet had a look at him and said that he needed stiching and it would cost another £100/$200!! I told her I just didnt have the money, which I dont, and she said that she could staple the wound but it might not meet up very well but it wouldonly cost £15; I decided to go for it not just because of the finances but also because he had had a traumatic day enough, re-homed, attacked, taxi, vets - I also think that at 8 weeks old a general anasthetic should be avoided if possible.

She bought him back in, stapled, and the wound looks HUGE but it has come together well by the look of it. She said to take him to the vet in 10 days and get them to remove the staples unless he doesnt eat or poo overnight and then I had to take him back tomorrow...at another £97 cost.

Since he has been home he has pooed and had a little run around and although not interested in rabbit food he likes carrot tops so he has had thoughs...she said that she didnt care what he ate today as long as he ate.

At the moment he is sleepy but keeps bouncing over to me for, I think, reassurance. He will sleep in the cat box tonight...partly because he cant go in with Grace and partly because I dont want him moving around too much unsupervised.

He doesnt have a name yet....suggestions are always good....at the moment my main concern is getting him better

These were taken before the attack....he is a lop cross breed, crossed with what they dont know but his ears are up and his snout quite square. I think he's beautiful

I'm so sorry that that happened. I can imagine what that is like. When we first got a friend for Buddy, Buddy hopped over to meet the girl and they got in a fight. It was the first morning we had had her. We had to take her back!:( Make sure that you give them playtimes seperately. (I'm sure you have figured that out!)

I hope the bonding will go well! I'll keep my fingers crossed! :brownbunny
He is adorable! I'm loving the helicopter ears! :inlove:

Name Suggestions: Wilbur, Pepper, Dixie (not sure if Dixie is a boy name......)

I'm sorry this has happened to your little guys. Hopefully everything will be ok.

Do you have a seperate cage for him? I doubt you will be housing him and Gracie together anytime soon, so you really do need a second setup for him until you can get him neutered and they are fully bonded.

Make sure you give lots of attention to Gracie as well when he is around or she will be jealous and likely keep attacking him. I would hold of on any kind of bonding activities until he is fully healed and he is neutered. You can house them near each other, but you should give them time, and give Gracie some time to adjust.

Glad to hear it wasn't more serious.

Wow thats quite a first day! Im so glad the vet was able to stitch him up. I hope he heals up well, and any future bonding works out fine. He's so cute.

my fave names:

blaze

bugs

ollie (oliver)

Sorry the list is short,I got it down to three.I spent about an hour looking at your photos and trying to match names to them. :)

Awww thats sweet!

I like Oliver, I think that has to go on the maybe list.

He seems to be doing well, pretty bright but I am a little concerned that he is over cleaning his wound...or maybe even biting near it because it is looking very red around it. Im going to see how he is and then call the vet for advise if Im unsure maybe see if there is something I can put on it that tastes nasty but isnt harmful so he will leave it alone

He has been eating and pooing so thats the warning bits sorted and I can relax a bit more. He hasnt drunk anything since he got here, the vet said not to worry about it too much. I have given him bottle water but I just put some in a bowl for him in case he doesnt know what to do with the bottle.

At the moment he is bouncing on the bed for the first time before going in the cat carrier to sleep....we are trying to sort out a cage for him ASAP but with that vet bill money is practically none existant.

Grace has been better. I let her out when I was cleaning her cage and put the little one in the carrier, then I put him in her cage while it was clean so she could bounce around. She had a little go at him in the cage a couple of times and sort of had a go at me...she snorted and half boxed me but she didnt put any effort into it. I spent time fussing her and she seemed to improve and has been a lot more affectionate tonight...she is obviously worried about what that this little one will take me away from her. She has been a little darling. I took him out and let her go in her cage when she was ready.

I know she isnt going to like the invasion of terortory thing but my thoughts are that maybe if she gets used to his sent it will make things easier. Her first "attack" when he was in her cage was quite mean but the other two were mild and like she wasnt as mad as she was but still not best pleased.

What a beautiful little boy! Well, sounds like he had a bit of a rough start in his new home (not unusual when an established bunny is there)...but I bet he will fit in nicely once things have settled down. He's a real charmer! :inlove:

Your new boy is an absolute sweetheart!

I know how you feel about the attack - the same thing happened when Pernod attacked Shadow, though she came off worse (it also cost me £97 for the emergency vet :?)

I hope things soon settle down and they become friends :)

Oh my thats horrible to have to deal with:(

Your new bun is absolutely gorgeous putting him on my bunny nap list:DHe looks like a magpie colouring i think. I had a broken magpie and he was those colours.

Very gorgeous:inlove:

Thank you!!

He is doing REALLY well, better than I could have hoped for and he is eating, drinking and pooing like a pro!

My boyfriend decided to spring a surprise visit on me today to bring him a rabbit cage!! -- He drove for 3 hours, stopped for an hour, turned around and then went back and to work! -- how amazing is THAT!

So he now has a cage ontop of Graces but to be honest I dont like it on top of hers because it makes her cage dark but I dont want to put it next to hers because she gets upset just looking at him and he is now scared of him! - I dont think I have anywhere else to put either of them.

When he came out of his cage for his run around she didnt like it AT ALL and got very annoyed about it so I put him back and let her out instead....as he is so little he has plenty of bouncing room in his cage. I think I will have to have his bouncing time in the bedroom untill she is happier about having a baby brother.

He still doesnt have a name! - I know he is defenatly a boy because he looks as though he has a winky and also when the guy in the shop double checked him one of his little pink testicles popped out! - So at least I can feel safe giving him a boy name and not worry that we are going to get a surprise when he goes to the vets.

Wow, quite a traumatic first day for the little fella. Glad that he's on the mend now.

I know how you feel, because for the past several weeks I've been going through the same things with my resident bun, Carmel (big meanie), and our new guy, Charlie (little peace-nik).:banghead

How about this for a name--Trooper.

After all, your little guy sure was a trooper on that first day! ;)
